Over time, due to excessive sitting or wear, wheel bearings develop flat spots and lose lubrication causing poor performance, and if left untreated, failure. The purpose of this guide is to walk the user through the process of replacing the wheel bearings on a typical motorcycle wheel using a wheel from a 1996 Honda CBR900RR FireBlade.

You will need a few tools, some new wheel bearings and seals, some paper towels, and a good wheel bearing grease.

    • On the left side of the motorcycle, use the 12 mm wrench to remove the bolts in the order indicated.

    • On the right side, use the 12 mm wrench to remove the first two bolts, the 22 mm wrench for the third, and finish up with the 12 mm on the remaining two.

    • Using the long 3/8" extension, and inserting it at an angle as shown, you should be able to move the bearing spacer to the side and catch the inside of the bearing.

    • Once the extension is firmly planted on the bearing, use the hammer to tap the bearing downward, out of the race.

    • The bearing spacer will fall out.

    • Flip the wheel over and drive the other bearing out with the extension.
