A broken headlight is a hazard and can cause you to be pulled over and fined. There are many replacement headlights available across many different makes and models of vehicles, so finding the instructions for the correct make and model is important to be able to safely and effectively complete this fix.

This guide will provide instructions on replacing a broken or defective headlight on a 2019-2022 Ford Ranger.

    • Start the vehicle.

    • Turn the headlight dial to the "O" symbol to turn off the headlights.

    • Turn off vehicle.

    • Remove keys.

    • Pull the hood release to pop the vehicle's hood.

    • The hood release locates near the bottom of the driver side console below the headlight dial.

    • Push left and hold the yellow tab located under the middle of the hood.

    • Pull up on the hood.

    • Secure the hood open.

    • Pry the 5 plastic fasteners out with a flathead or a spudger.

    • Remove the two screws anchoring the air intake vent with a flathead screw driver.

    • Lift the intake vent to make room to slide the cover out.

    • Pry up along the edge of the cover with a flathead or a spudger to unclip it.

    • Listen for loud clicks as you pry up the edge. This indicates the clips are released.

    • Pull the cover off.

    • Set the cover aside.

    • Remove the 10mm bolts that anchor the grill to the frame with a socket wrench.

    • Use the socket wrench with the 10mm hex attachment

    • Using the T-25 Torx bit, unscrew the secondary cover from the frame.

    • There are 4 total screws on each of the corners of the cover.

    • Remove the secondary cover by shift and pulling it up with you hands.

    • The cover is not very flexible; remove slowly to reduce risk of breaking it.

    • Push down on the plastic clips to release them.

    • Push outwards on the outer clips to release them.

    • Pull the grill directly towards you once the all clips are released.

    • These clips are plastic and brittle. Be patient to make sure they do not break.

    • Removing the grill will take considerably longer than other steps since clips on one side have a tendency to snap back in once you move to the other.

    • Remove hardware that is anchoring down the head light using 10 mm hex bit.

    • Remove hardware that is anchoring down the head light using Philips head 2 screwdriver.

    • Remove wheel well lining to expose space under headlight.

    • Pry out side hazard light using a flat head screwdriver or spudger.

    • Remove T-25 torx screw.

    • Pull away the fender guard to expose the last bolt the anchors the headlight to the body.

    • Pulling back the fender guard will require the release of a clip the was underneath the wheel-well liner.

    • Remove bolt using the 7mm hex bit.

    • Unplug the headlight cable.
