The most common reason to replace the battery is if the laptop fails to hold a charge. This could mean that the laptop shuts off immediately when unplugged or that the battery only lasts for a short while compared to when the laptop was brand new. It is also common to remove the battery before performing any other operations on the laptop to prevent electrical damage to you and other parts on the laptop.

Over time, batteries become less efficient due to the constant charging and discharging. This is normal behavior, and it is known that batteries will lose the ability to hold a charge over a long period of time.
