If your battery is not holding a charge, you can use this guide to replace it. Before beginning to replace the battery in this device, there are a few precautions to consider. One of those precautions would be to ground yourself to prevent frying the internal components. Another precaution would be to label and organize your small parts and screws to avoid misplacing important components. Happy fixing!

    • if present, remove the MicroSD card before disassembly. Failure to remove could lead to damage to the MicroSD card , rear cover, or MicroSD card slot.

    • Use the plastic tool to pry between the silver bezel and the back case

    • Work the tool around the device to free the back case

    Be very careful when prying apart the back case. I was very cautious but still managed to slightly warp the silver bezel at one location, so after reassembly I have one small section of this bezel that won’t snap completely flush with the back case. That said, opening this tablet is surprisingly easy.

    • Remove the ribbon cables by lifting up the white retaining flap on the ZIF connectors, then pulling the ribbon cable away.

    • Do not kink the ribbon cables as they can break easily

    I removed both ribbon ends on the ASUS-labelled ends of the cable. FWIW, one of my connector lock tabs is white & the other is black.

    In my case (a Z580CA instead of the Z580C pictured) one of the lock tabs was white and the other black, as the previous comment noted, but also the printing on the ribbon cables is slightly different (i.e. the white ribbon cable had “ASUS” printed on its left end, instead of what’s pictured above). What seems more consistent among models is the ID printed on either end of each ribbon cable:

    Top (white) cable: “SB” or “FPC_SB” ⟧≣≣≣≣⟦ “MB” or “FPC_MB”

    Bottom (orange) cable: “LCM” ⟧≣≣≣≣⟦ “MB”

    So, all in all, I agree with the previous comment — it’s enough if you remove the connectors on the “MB” end only.

    Bottom line cable holder colors were inverted. I destroyed my tablet because I followed “pry open white part”. :-(

    • Remove the battery connector by prying it up away from the device using 2 plastic pry tools

    • Remove all 9 of the 1.5mm #00 Philips screws

    • Gently lift the battery out of the device

    • Use an opening pick or similar tool to separate the adhesive on the bottom and top of the battery.

    The tray only provides a mounting location for the battery which is securely stuck to the tray with foam tape. Pry them gently apart. I reinstalled my tray & screws, then reconnected the power cable and finally placed the battery into the tray. The clone battery is physically smaller than the original and the power cable isn’t in quite the same place but it does fit.

    In my case I did remove the metal tray as I found it easier to pull the battery away once I had the tray in my hand. But if you know approximately where to insert a plastic tool to help separate the tape, I fully agree that removing the metal tray is completely unnecessary. FWIW, in my case I had two strips of double-sided tape, running vertically (considering the orientation of the picture above), one of them approximately at the level of the screw in the 11-o’clock position, the other approximately at the level of the 5-o’clock screw.

    Also, my tablet (Z580CA) had only eight screws (weird — the one at the 3-o’clock position was missing) and I found them to more closely match a 2.0mm screwdriver head.

    The battery part number shown in one of the pictures and what is in my tablet is C11Pn9H. I ordered a Cameron Sino C11P1304 from Amazon that states it’s compatible with a C11Pn9H. It really is not. It’s smaller and the power conector is 1/4” inch away from the corner. I’m sending it back.

    I found and ordered on Amazon a DGTECH C11P1510 battery that also states it’s a compatible battery for the Asus ZenPad S 8.0 Z580C Z580CA Z380C Z380C and looks exactly the same as the C11Pn9H but it costs more. $39.99 compared to the Cameron Sino for $23.89. Ouch! almost double the price. Also 1 Year Replacement Warranty as the Cameron Sino battery.

To reassemble your device, follow these instructions in reverse order. Ensure that the MicroSD card slot cover is in its closed position before re-attaching the rear cover.

The original battery says” Rating 3.8v 15.2 Wh” and “Capacity 4000mAh(TYP) 3984mAh(MIN)”

Clone batteries may be lower. Wish I’d bought a “factory battery”

Tutorial was perfect, much easier than I thought. Unfortunately swapping the battery did not fix my tablet, but I feel a lot more confident now to try fixing things like this first instead of just automatically throwing them away. Thanks!

I completed the battery swap as per these instructions. Now I’m trying to get past the issue the battery will not charge. The device will not turn on. When I plug the Asus-branded cable & charger into the Type C socket, the screen displays an “empty battery” symbol followed by the green “battery question mark” symbol. I understand this means the battery is unrecognized and am trying to resolve this problem. Any helpful hints please?

I had this exact problem with my original battery, now solved with the one I got from AliExpress. But the workaround i found for the “battery question mark” screen was as follows:

1) Turn off tablet (most likely it has already shut itself off due to depleted battery). Keep tablet UNPLUGGED for now.

2) Hold power button to power on.

3) When the screen lights up and you see the empty battery icon, quickly plug in the tablet.

4) You should see the normal charging animation now.

After you get over a certain % of charge you can power on the tablet and continue to work normally. If the battery still has charge you can even turn it off again and just plug it in and it will charge. In my case, at least, the tablet only seemed unable to charge when the battery was fully depleted.

(The other case when I usually got a battery question mark icon was when plugging in a QuickCharge charger. This tablet REALLY doesn’t like QC chargers.)

Good guide. I just swapped mines battery.

I googled the part # and grabbed a replacement off amazon, 300mAh less than the old but thats not so bad; voltages match.

My replacement battery didn’t come with a tray so i peeled it off the old one, the adhesive is pretty strong. I stuck a plastic ruler in there to get the battery off; bent the tray, but its easy enough to rebend back into shape. The battery i got is a bit smaller (5 or 6 mm than the old one), in order to get the power cables properly lined up i had to slightly off set it in the tray from where the old one sat.

One of the battery tray screws has a little sticker covering it that says “seal”. I guess thats a warranty thing. Also the screws are tine and real easy to lose, mine went back together with 8 screws :p

also take out your sd card before pulling it apart.

I got a question mark on the battery charge indicator when i first plugged it in with the new battery, started just fine. Reports as 0% charged at first.

The retaining flaps on the orange ribbon cable were black, not white, on my device which irritated me and while trying to get it out, I accidentally pulled the orange cable from underneath the child board.

I found batteries at ALI Express. They seem to be an OEM supplier. 4000mah 3.8 volt pn: c11p427 US $ 7.01 + $4.11 shipping. It also has the 9 retaining screws.

I had hoped that this would be a fix to my battery which didn’t hold a charge for more than an hour and a half without recharging. Must have done something wrong cause when I tried to turn it back on nothing happened. No battery display or anything. Assumed that maybe battery was completely discharged, so plugged in the charger. Still nothing. Will leave on the charger for about an hour and hope for the best. My guess is that I somehow pulled something loose somewhere. I am an old electronics technician and this was a good guide. Sorry I wasted the time (and cost of a new battery) trying to fix this. Should have applied it to the purchase of a new one, but my pride wouldn’t let me do that without trying first! :)

Well, easy it is not. To begin with , removing the back cover without damaging the tablet is not possible. Scratches and cracked screen is the result. And yes I was using the special blue tool from i-fixit, I bought especially for this job. Umpteen videos on the net show it’s a half second trick, ‘just open the back as shown… forgetting to show where you need to open the tablet, how much pressure is needed (a ton) and.. well just completely insufficient/incomplete info. First dead battery after a year of light use and now cracked screen. And I never did get that back cover off.

Both are “correct” as these are likely slightly different revisions of the same device. There seems to be a version of the device that comes with USB-C as well.

If you open yours up and find a battery without the metal frame, be sure to use care when removing the battery. Isopropyl alcohol helps soften the adhesive.
