If you ever need to replace your Acer Aspire R (model R5-471T-51UN) keyboard, use this guide to help you navigate across the different elements connecting your keyboard. The instructions prepare you to unplug certain connections using tools like the Phillips #0 screwdriver and a spudger.

Step 5 asks you to be cautious in gently removing the battery of the laptop. From there, you will be asked to remove the motherboard, the fan, and finally the display brackets.

Before getting started, power off your device and disconnect from any other external connections.

    • Use your Phillips #0 screwdriver to remove the two 3mm screws on the battery.

Note that iFixit prefers first-person shots to these kinds of side shots.

    • Gently and cautiously pinch the white ends of the battery connector cable and slowly pull it from the motherboard.

Do you have a further out shot you can markup to show where on the device this is?

    Alex Watkins -

I might also add that the connector cable is connecting the battery to the motherboard.

    • Gently lift the battery out of the laptop.

    • Be cautious with the lithium ion battery as you remove it.

How can I remove the battery? Note that remove is a nonspecific verb, so either add description or use a stronger verb if there are multiple ways to do something.

    Alex Watkins -

There is actually no need to remove the battery. I just did it , going from 256 GB sata M.2  to 1TB  without removing the battery.

    • Use the spudger to flip up the locking tabs on each of the four ZIF cable connectors.

    • Remove each of the ribbon cables from their connectors.

Although the middle shot is blurry, the white balance is much better here. See iFixit feedback regarding this step.

I think you still need to focus on this comment—how to remove the ribbon cables, and a closer view of this procedure.

    • Using the Phillips #0 screwdriver, remove the eight 3 mm screws holding in the motherboard and the three 3 mm screws holding down the fan.

Note the blurry hand in the first image. What are you using the spudger for here? How should I remove the motherboard and fan?

    Alex Watkins -

    This comment still needs attention.

    • Using the Phillips #0 screwdriver, remove the eight 5 mm screws from the display brackets on either side.

Why not just use one wide shot with all 8 screws marked?

    Alex Watkins -

Comment still needs attention. Add commas after introductory phrases (e.g., Using the screwdriver, unscrew).

    • Remove the keyboard assembly by gently pulling it up.

How do I remove it? Also, what is the purpose of the last two shots?

    Alex Watkins -

“Gently pulling it up”—are there any connectors? Do you have any pictures of this action happening?
