Einleitung

If your laptop is running hot, you may decide to either replace or clean out your fan unit, and replace the thermal compound with better quality.

    • Ensure the laptop is powered down before continuing.

    • Use a Phillips #0 screwdriver to remove the ten 3mm Phillips head screws on the base of the laptop.

    • Use the spudger to pry open the rear cover at either hinge.

    • Grab the cover with your fingers and gently lift it away from the board.

    • Be careful not to break any tabs on the cover when lifting it off.

    This step took me about an hour of careful prying. I didn’t break any real tabs, but tiny rectangular chips of plastic still came off. It felt like the cover had been sealed to the board, so I couldn’t just lift it off.

    • Remove the seven 4mm Phillips #0 screws holding the heat sink/fan assembly onto the motherboard.

    • Using the spudger, unplug the fan from the motherboard connection by carefully pushing on both sides of the connector.

    • Lift up on the fan, copper heat pipe and heat sink assembly, and remove from motherboard.

    • Be careful when removing the heat sink unit from the CPU, as there will be thermal paste residue that will have be to cleaned and new thermal paste applied.
