The Asus X551CA WiFi card allows the laptop to connect to wireless internet servers.

    • Power off and unplug your laptop before you begin.

    • Turn the laptop upside-down and remove the following screws using a Phillips #0 driver:

    • Two 9.5 mm screws in the middle of the back edge, and one 9.5 mm screw in the right edge

    • Two 4.3 mm screws in the back corners

    • One 17.5 mm screw at the left edge near the optical drive

    • Three 4.3 mm screws in the front edge

screw assignments are definitely wrong. I swapped the red and the green, as per comment above, and kept the blue as-is.

Thanks everyone. It does seem like someone got their screws mixed up when they wrote this guide. I’ve made some changes as you all suggested, so the screw placements should be more accurate now. If anyone with this laptop could verify the screw measurements with a digital caliper, that’d also be very helpful.

    • Use the plastic opening tool to separate the keyboard plate cover from the bottom cover. In order to do this, insert the plastic opening tool in between the keyboard plate cover and the bottom cover, then slide along edges to pry open.

  3. TIVAeYCtcuG2BfKi
    • Locate the three ribbons connecting the keyboard plate cover to the bottom cover.

    • Invert the laptop in order to gain access to the ribbons.

    • Remove each ribbon by flipping the small white plastic flap up and gently pulling on the ribbon.

Don't remove the ribbons, just move the keyboard slightly forward to remove the old battery and insert the new one (just make sure they are all connected when you put it back)

    • Now that the ribbons have been detached from the bottom cover, carefully remove the keyboard plate cover. Once it has been removed, place it in a safe and moisture free area so it does not get damaged.

Is painting your nails crucial for step 5?

    wiedzmin -

Yes and you have to put lotion on

    joemidjette -

Now, that is a stupid question! Of course! As I am working on 551M, I naturally have to have nails painted orange, with blue accents!

    • Use the Phillips #0 Screwdriver to unscrew the 3.2 mm Phillips #0 screw which attaches the WiFi card to the motherboard.

  7. JRDblQQARmxL5wsQ
    • Disconnect the Wifi card from the motherboard by gently sliding it towards the right edge of the laptop.

    • Remove each of the two small antenna connections by disconnecting one wire at a time. Each wire should easily unsnap from the Wifi card.

mine only had the black cable and the small wifi card was slightly different. the card itself has two available connections and is labeled as to where the black cable (main) and white cable if it were present (aux) cables connect.

Could i replace It for a wifi ac card? Wich could be compatible?

    david_rpz -

This computer uses a Mini PCIe slot card, as you can see in the photo's. You can órder almost any card, from either FENVI brand (Intel) or Artheros (Qualcomm), just make certain you order a card that specifically says it is a HALF HEIGHT Mini PCI-e card. Intel stop producing cards like this after the 7265HMW card but other brands make compatible cards. In the Intel design, any card that ends in 'HMW' is a card that is a mini PCIe card. If you see any other combination of letters then it is not likely to be compatible.

If you have any questions, ask the vendor if the card is compatible with your computer.
