Do you have an old bike that needs to be restored? A bike’s chainring is one of many things that can be easily worn down as bikes age. A chainring connects the bike chain to the rear wheel of the bike. Restore a bike’s old chainring by replacing it with a new chainring.

    • Locate chainring, the gear connected to the pedals.

    • Place the spanner tool on the backside of the 6.5 mm chainring bolt. The spanner will be used to keep the bolts in place while unscrewing them on the opposite sides.

    • On the chainring there will be one bolt facing the opposite direction, usually the bolt blocked by the pedal. Adjust for this by swapping use of the hex key and spanner tool.

    • Repeat with the rest of the bolts.

    • Clean thoroughly within the threads.

    • Now that the chainring bolts are clean, apply a pea-sized amount of grease to each bolt.

    • Use your fingers to evenly spread a coat the grease around the entire bolt.

    • If the chainring bolts contain rust, it is recommended to replace the bolts with a new set.
