This guide will show you how to disassemble your Canon EOS 5D Mark III enough to replace your CF Card reader with bent pins. I haven't found any other reliable resources online that plainly list how to do this step by step, so here we are.

Insert the CF card reader and make sure the tabs on either side align with the black plastic nodes underneath.
-
Replace the metal plate that supports the main board to the left of the card reader. It should overlap the two screw holes on the left of the card reader.
-
Screw through the two openings on the right of the plate to secure CF Card Reader in place

To reassemble your device, follow these instructions in reverse order.

Hi Matthew,
any news on the repair?
My MK III broke down today during a movie shot. CF pins are bent and one is gone for good. Would like to know if you got anywhere.
Thanks man

Hi moseph92. Yes, I have successfully repaired 3 Mk III units. I apologize for not being able to finish the guide in a timely manner. The Mk III is a little difficult but is absolutely serviceable.
For now, make sure you have a new part on order from Canon for the entire CF card reader assembly. With a pin missing it will be extremely difficult to solder it back into place.
Once you get the part in, make sure you have a place to put each and every screw and label exactly where you got the screw from. There are seriously too many sizes and thread dimensions to list them all here. The first one I worked on was a nightmare. Once I labeled and sorted the screws, I was able to easily put it back together.
You will have to remove the bottom cover of the camera as well as the back cover to access everything you need. There is some black sticky tape covering the internal that you will have to gently pry off the internals before you can really open up the insides. Make sure you don't tear this.
Hi Matthew I wonder if you know CF card reader part number?

Yes, jemeve. It is listed as CG2-3187-000 by Canon.
