Make sure the drill is turned "off" before you begin by putting the forward reverse switch in the middle position. Make sure your hands are dry when handling the drill and charger. Make sure you have a clean workspace.

    • Loosen the chuck until it is all of the way open.

    • Use a Torx T20 screwdriver to remove the screw in the center of the chuck.

    • This screw is left-hand threaded, so you will need to turn clockwise to remove the screw, rather than counter-clockwise.

    • Now take a 8mm Allen Wrench with your dominant hand, and insert it into the chuck.

    • Spin the chuck clockwise to tighten the allen inside as tight as it will go.

    • Set the gear box for the lowest gear setting. Should be at level 1.

    • With your nondominant hand hold the drill parallel to the surface you are working on.

    • With your dominant hand, take a rubber mallet and strike the top of the Allen Wrench pushing the Allen Wrench towards the surface you are working on. The chuck is now broken free from the drill.

    • Using your dominant hand, turn the Allen Wrench towards you until the chuck removes itself completely from the drill.

I have this exact drill and the chuck loosens up after using the drill for a few times. It’s almost like the drill brakes too fast and the momentum continues to through the chuck to loosen it. Will replacing the chuck fix my issue?

@shawoo: Your chuck should be tighten, not changed.

If you follow this guide to change the chuck you might destroy the gearcase.

You need a special tool to change this the right way.

I have followed your advice but my chuck keeps skipping and won't break free, what do you recommend I do now?

My chuck is ceased in the closed position and I am unable to open it.

Is there any way to open it ?

My chuck was stuck partially open. Could not back the retaining screw all the way out. I had to cut the chuck off with a grinder.

Horrible directions. “Toward you” doesn’t make sense. Establish a frame of reference (facing the chuck) and state clockwise and counter-clockwise. That does make sense.

My drill has a hex screw holding the chuck on… not a Phillips screw shown in the videos. I cannot get the 7/64 Allen wrench to loosen the “reverse thread” screw. Afraid I will break the Allen wrench.

I have removed the set screw from the chuck, installed a large Allen key tightened the Chuck, smacked it with a rubber mallet as hard as possible, the chuckwill not come free, just ratchets. What is the next step?
