Is your tablet not charging correctly? This guide will show you how to replace your tablet's battery.

  1. SVhHTQwTVUPlGW6Z
    • Make sure your device is turned off. Leaving it turned on may cause an electric shock.

    • Face the device with the screen towards you.

  2. Xf5sO5wfE62LLlNL
    • With a plastic opening tool, pry open the bottom left corner of the screen.

    • The screen is tightly attached to the tablet, so you may have to use a metal spudger to pry it open if the plastic spudger does not do the task.

  3. 2d3UTNGMV5W6uB2H
    • Next, pry open the top left corner of the screen.

  4. 1VQL2GQeufOOAqLX
    • Then, pry open the top right corner of the screen.

  5. 31uJXJcsP5WSK4s6
    • Lastly, pry open the bottom right corner of the screen.

  6. YxhUBAWZIeOHpAMN
    • Once you have pried open all the corners of the tablet, carefully open the screen from the right side of the tablet.

    • Do not try and open the screen from the left side of the tablet, because the screen is attached on the left side of the tablet; doing this can damage the tablet.

  7. WXFPwZaUcja4ZyAR
    • Once the tablet is opened, locate the connector.

  8. ZLjKHogbZZnF6tQQ
    • Disconnect the connector from the tablet.

  9. SWLq2fnJFPpcWVjK
    • Unscrew the eight 7 mm Philips #1 screws.

    • After the screws are unscrewed, you can take off the silver cover.

  10. RhjxfkWLaPaQgfXd

Hi

I need some advice from you on replacing battery for Venue 7840.

Is the display assembly attached to the main body with sticky glue? Is it helpful to heat up the edges of the display assembly with a dryer or heat gun before removing it?

Thanks in advance

Yes it is attached with glue, removing the screen as described will likely result in a wrecked screen unless you're a magician. Also, the battery seems to be glued to the back of the device, making removal challenging. And by that I mean almost impossible without destroying it.

Hi,

Assuming you are already using replacement battery, please share the replacement battery yo used. Also, how is the performance of current battery.

And also let us know if you have any advice or suggestion for battery and if it is worth to replace battery.

Can anyone who has actually performed this replacement discuss how difficult or easy it actually was? Did you use only the tools listed or was the heat gun necessary/useful? Does the tablet with a replacement battery accept a full charge and fully discharge before shutting down? Does the referenced glue that Alex mentioned actually make this replacement as unlikely to be successful as indicated. I ordered 2 new batteries from Chinese vendor via Ebay. They both arrived with comprehensive tool kits to execute the replacement including suction cups for the screen. I have a heat gun and will most likely do this in the next 2 weeks on 2 Venue 7840’s. I’ll re-post with results.

I performed this replacement. I used a heat gun - the screen was still difficult to remove, and I’m not sure if the heat helped or not. I also used suction pliers made for pulling screens apart (you can find these for around $12 or so). If you use suction pliers, you hold the tablet in portrait mode and suction at top right corner keeping the screen pinched together at bottom left corner (reason: the ribbon cable connecting the screen to the tablet is in the bottom left corner and you don’t want to damage that when suctioning the screen away from the body). I also used old playing cards to help work the screen loose from the body (old playing cards work infinitely better than the pry tools in my opinion). The screen is held in place by 1mm double sided adhesive tape (you will want to order a roll of this for putting the tablet back together, so be sure you have some ready, it’s not expensive).

Getting the old battery out is a real pain as it’s stuck to the body using a couple very thick strips of double sided flexible adhesive tape, and this is where you will want to make liberal use of the heat gun on the back side of the tablet. Be very careful pulling the old battery out - lithium ion batteries are known to combust if they are traumatized too much. I’d recommend wearing safety glasses and have a fire extinguisher handy.

After getting it all back together, the tablet accepts a full charge, and I can now run it down to 1% before the tablet turns off on it’s own. I’m super happy with the battery swap.

I followed these instructions and have successfully replaced the battery. Everything is working great but I have one problem. The corner of the screen above where the ribbon cable connects the screen to the mainboard refuses to stay put. I even pulled all the old double-sided adhesive off and applied brand new adhesive all the way around the contact region but that bottom corner keeps popping up on its own. I suspect that the act of taking the screen off straightened out the (previously bent) ribbon cable turning it into some kind of spring that keeps pushing the screen up. How do I fix this? I have taken this ting apart and put it back together multiple times.

I would like to replace my screen as it has a hairline crack down the right side from top to bottom. U can't see it unless your looking for it.

I ended up cracking the screen following these instructions, and simply destroyed it to understand how it was assembled. The screen is literally glued to the back around the entire edge, at least with my version, it doesn’t clip on. A heat gun would be a must to release the adhesive, but it really appears designed not to be disassembled. You would need to pull the back straight off the screen after releasing the adhesive with heat.? After stomping it apart the very edge of screen was still adhered to the edge of the back like attached with super glue. I suggest you make sure you can get it apart before you waste you money on a replacement battery as I did.
