If your Dell XPS 17 9710 has a problem with overheating, there may be an issue with the cooling fans not functioning properly.

Before using this guide, inspect the fans to see if there is any debris or dust stopping them from functioning properly. If so, turn off your device and use compressed air to blow the dust and debris out.

Otherwise, the cooling fans may need to be replaced. This guide will give you the process on how to do so.

Before beginning, make sure to turn off the device completely.

    • Remove eight 5 mm screws from the back panel using a T5 Torx screwdriver.

    • Use the opening tool to loosen the panel on all sides and then lift it from the device.

I found it easiest to start with the opening tool at the center front, where there’s a little dip in the bottom panel for LED light. Start there, and work your way around to the back along each side.
