If your Dewalt 20V Impact Driver (model DCF885) doesn’t work, or it has little power even though the battery is fully charged, use this guide to replace the motor assembly.

The motor assembly uses battery power to spin the chuck. A faulty motor will cause the Impact Driver to not work, have little power, or produce smoke when it’s being used.

Before using this guide, use this troubleshooting guide to make sure that the motor is the faulty part. Be sure that the battery is removed before fixing the Impact Driver.

    • Remove the eight 18 mm Torx Security #10 screws.

    • Separate the two halves of the outer case. Set the empty side down and out of the way.
