Our iTouchless trash can has a motion sensing lid that uses multiple sliding panels that retract when you approach the front of the device. Every one or two years the sliding panels become misaligned and as a result they ultimately jam. This guide shows you how to re-align the sliding panels

These sliding panels automatically retract when you approach the trash can, but can become misaligned and will jam if not re-aligned. The second photo shows our retracting panels jammed into place.

I usually remove the batteries to make the cover lighter. Otherwise it is unbalanced and I'm fighting gravity for the entire repair. The center tab on the filter can be depressed and the filter slides out. If not, you can loosen the two screws on the "LOCK" retainer.

You can open the battery compartment by depressing the tab on the left hand side of the picture. Then the batteries pop right out.

Remove the four Phillips head screws holding the two sides of the lid clamshell together. The screws are at the bottom of the four holes on the underside of the lid. As the two sides of the lid pull apart, note the orientation of the white wire harness at the sensor end of the lid and gently unplug it.

The sliding panels are driven by the bead belt. The good news and bad news is that belt can stretch. You align your sliding panels by the bumping the bead belt forward or backward by one bead at a time until the panels align.

Re-assembly is pretty simple IF you remember to re-connect the white cable harness in it's original location and orientation. :)

To reassemble your device, follow these instructions in reverse order.
