After months or years of sweat, dust and water your device can become very dirty.

A great problem is non-responsive buttons that can be easily cleaned.

    • Remove the seal around the circumference of the watch casing, as you will be handling the casing a lot and you don’t want to risk tearing the gasket.

    • Using the tweezers, remove the circlips around every button very carefully.

    • When the circlips are removed, you can pull the buttons off. Do this step carefully because you will also find a return spring inside every button hole

    • Clean the case, including the hole of the buttons

    • Clean the buttons and the springs

    • (OPTIONAL) You can lubrificate the buttons before re-inserting them in the case

    • Reassemble the watch

I have a 5X that needs the battery replaced. it would be great to add the battery replacement to this guide! any chance you could do this ? I purchased the battery already and am ready to do this. Garmin says too bad too sad my device is "end of life" I simply refuse to believe that. It's a $800 device and although it's old(ish) the only thing wrong is the battery.

    I Samuel,

Unfortunately, I don't have a Garmin 5X but I've found a video on YouTube that can help you replace the battery: How to replace your aging Garmin Fenix 5X Battery

Thanks for that info. In looking at the pictures, I can’t tell which piece is the battery. Do you think it can be easily replaced? Or is it soldered in? Thanks.

Patrick Chang -

Hi,

the battery is visible in the step 5 and step 6.

It is linked to the mainborad with a connector, It’s not soldered.

It’s glued to the back cover but, in my opinion, it can be easy replaced.

The battery type is "361-00097-00"

The nominal specifications are 255mAh, 0.97Wh and 3.8V

On ebay you can find a new battery: https://www.ebay.it/itm/283519139846?has...

I hope this can help

Maybe do You know where to purchase a gaskets?

Edgaras Tamošauskas -

Unfortunately, I don’t know where you can find it.

I’ve searched on my favourite websites with no luck.

Question: do I need to disasassemble the screen to change only the battery? Can I just access to it by the rear cover?

Thanks for the info!

Cristóbal Sabroe Yde -

Hi,

Yes, I think you can remove only the rear cover.

But if your watch is 2-3 years old, I think that cleaning everything it’s worth it.

Anyone that has done a tear down of Fenix 6? The vibration module is loose and would be good to see if it can be glued back.
