I took laptop apart because it rattled. I found that rattle was bits of the plastic case which had broken off being loose inside. Even once I had cover off I had to scake/tapp laptop quite a lot to get them all to dislodge themselves. The laptop is not build for durability or made to last. It would seem that it’s response to a hard life is just to disintegrate mechanically from the inside out. Luckily ever with one screw less (because plastic mount for tread on inside had snapped off) and half of the clips broken is still seemed to have enough screws to appear solid when re-assembled.

    • First remove the battery.

    • Then remove CD drive by removing screw in blue circle. The drive should then slide out.

    • Peal off the rubber feet by hinges (yellow squares in previous step)

    • This should allow you to remove the 11 remaining screws (2 un battery compartment, 2 under rubber feet and 7 just on bottom of laptop).

    • With the laptop upside down on desk the back plastic cover comes off leaving all the PCBs and speakers attached to back of keyboard/trackpad.

    • There are a series of plastic clips round the edge that are almost impossible to get off with out snapping, particularly if plastic is a bit old and brittle.

    • When unclipped you have to lift up slightly on one side and then sideways as the plastic cover hooks round the VGA connector on PCB. Once you've gone round and release the clips (I used small flat head screw drive but this probably wasn't be best tool as it had a tendency to snap plastic loops/hooks) then cover should lift off really easily.

    • Once you've got back cover of you can clean inside. I cleaned the plastic cover with toothbrush and a little water/soap.

    • To clean the PCBs I used compressed air.

    • Make sure cover is complete dry before reassembling.

    • Remember to stick the plastic feet on again at the end. The original glue tape seemed reusable.
