RAM (Random Access Memory) is the laptop’s system storage. It is used to handle short-term data storage while being fast sending and receiving it. Upgrading RAM to faster and/or higher capacity ones can improve system responsiveness and/or allow more programs to be ran at the same time. Use this guide to replace the RAM in your HP EliteBook 8530w.

    • Pull the battery away upward and away from the laptop while continuing to hold the release switch.

    • Once the battery is removed from the laptop, you may release the switch.

    • To properly dispose of your battery, look for the closest location that accepts electronic waste in your area and drop it off there.

    • Unscrew the two screws with a RAM/WiFi icon using a Phillips #00 screwdriver.

    • These screws are retained (not designed to be removed). Just loosen them.

    • After the screws are loosened, pull the cover off by lifting up from the side with the screws.

    • Once the cover is removed, you will see two rectangular RAM sticks as shown in the picture.

    • Pull each of the tabs holding the RAM in place apart from each other.

    • Little force is required to pull the tabs. Be careful when bending them back.

    • Once the tabs are pulled away, the RAM should pop up to rest at a 45º angle to the motherboard.

    • Pull the RAM out of the laptop in the direction the RAM is pointing at to remove it.

    • When inserting RAM into the laptop, make sure that when you fold the RAM down the tabs are holding it in place. You may hear a "click" from the tabs when you fold the RAM down. That means that the tabs should be holding the RAM.

I just removed my 2G ram from the back as soy said but the laptop still can run.

At the slot of the ram I removed it has a number 3 and I am wondering if it is a "hidden" one?
