The requirements for replacing the battery are the usage of a 4 mm Phillips screwdriver, a soldering iron station, a utility knife, heat shrink tubes and two lithium batteries (3.6 V). Make sure how to use a soldering iron, especially in combination with batteries. If you are not familiar with (replacing) batteries, it might be a good idea to search for some information about how batteries work. Last but not least, create a work environment with good lighting and a clean desk. The replacement requires attention and concentration.

    • Remove the sticker carefully from the bottom.

  3. NErfr5LcSxExEsUI
    • Open the housing of the drill.

    • While opening place the rotation switch apart.

    • Detach the electric circuit and place it next to the drill.

    • Disconnect the three wires of the battery with a soldering iron.

  6. CJhJYjIlBZQh6djH
    • Place each new tubing (three in total) on the battery wires through sliding them on each wire.

  7. vFPMbvkSG6XUe4hi
    • Attach the two batteries to each other with tape, in case you have two separate batteries.

    • Use solder and a solder iron to attach the new battery to the wires.

    • The black wire should be connected with the negative pole of the two-wire side.

    • The wire should be warm enough to solder the battery to the wire.

    • Slide the tubings on each connection and heat each tubing with a lighter to make them shrink.

  8. kgcvdFfVbUfHxdGO
    • Place the electric circuit and the rotation switch back into the housing.

  9. YRbP5FkTHWOE5SPw
    • Put the housing back on the drill through clicking and closing it.

    • Put the seven screws back into the housing with the Phillips screwdriver.

The difficult and dangerous operation is the tag connection to the Li-ion battery case. The Weller soldering iron shown in (7) has the wrong shape solder tip. The connection to a Li-ion must be made quickly and without significant heating of the Li-ion. Connections are usually spot welded but an amateur could try a solder gun.

The replacement batteries should be Li-ion size 18650 of at least 1500 mAh and identical. These are available with tags already attached and I would buy these and crimp to the tags. I have not done this myself because I found the receipt and the drill was bought 3 years ago so it is going back. The batteries were manufactured 4 years before I bought the drill so they were old when I bought it.

Anyone know where I can get new brushes for the motor? Or a motor itself? Everything else works fine on my now 12 year old drill!
