This is NOT liquid Electrical tape! I recommend using 3M adhesive silicone. If you are doing this repair then you can find the 3m adhesive silicone at automotive stores. Liquid tape hardens and 3M adhesive remains mailable vs the rock hardening effect of liquid tape.

The two screws on the right side (side with the USB port) are too long to extract with the iFixit screwdriver in the basic kit. I needed to use a regular thin PH2 screwdriver to get them out.

    Matthew Poole -

I had this problem also, whenever putting the screws back in there were still air pockets in the side with smaller screws

When reinstalling I used E600 glue to replace this goop of glue that is removed.

Why does the whole White piece need to be replaced if replacing the USB port. I just took apart the case just to replace the USB port (not the battery). It looks like I can replace the port and not need a new case.

    Dave -

It looks like it would be difficult removing the USB assembly because mine looked very well glued in that little space meant for the module to fit.

    Thanks for this guide

I need help.

My speaker no longer takes a charge.

Not even that old

Where do I get replacement battery. And what kind

Rose -

Your instructions state to replace the white cover, but do not say why it has to be replaced. Can you expound, please? Thank you,

Delton Eason Jr -

Hi Delton, that is a good question. The entire cover has to be replaced if one is replacing the aux/USB ports.

You can ignore that note in this battery replacement guide. Good catch!

Joe Durand -

what type of battery should I be replacing the original battery with?

Hi, I am Shashikant Shinde,

I have bought JBL Flip 3 ( Black ) few months back. Surprisingly the battery is not sustaining for long time. I feel the life of the battery should have been stronger than this. Within a year itself the battery has gone bad I think. Has any one a guide to replace the battery in JBL Flip 3 speaker. It is difficult to give the speaker in the service centre, as it is closed on saturday and sunday.

Shashikant Shinde -

From where can i buy the battery for jbl charge 2

pjraysvarghese -

Hi all,

Just realized i need to change battery in my JBL Charge. First would like to say thanks for the explanations on how to get to that bloody battery ^^

I have one question:

Is it possible to upgrade that battery with one that will last longer and maybe charge quicker?

If yes what battery can i use?

Thank you in advance.

HighJuice -

Great instructions. Slightly diff on my charge 2+ but i got the whole idea from here. My charge 2+ started with batt issues about 1 month ago i could only do 1hr playback at mid vol…. i guess since oct 2015 with high usage (upto 2hrs per day) and most wknds for 5hrs and more. it was about time. New batt working great so far. Be careful not to drain your batt till red light flashes. Recharge when ur down to 2 lights and stop when the 5th light flashes. That way u protect from overcharge.

The charge 2+ is a great device.

Does anyone know what type of battery the JBL pulse 1 actually needs? Also any further instructions on where to acquire this type of battery for a possible repair assuming that’s the actual issue with this slightly expensive/uselessspeaker (is it the battery or charge port that’s malfunctioning? Or both? If speaker turns on while plugged in connects to a device, sounds like the speaker is blown unless I turn it way down, then shuts off completely all while the battery meter indicates a full charge. I enjoy fixing m own tech, any info on the matter would be greatly appreciated!!!!

Thanks! Great guide, much easier than it seemed at first. Now my speaker is working great again!

Great manuel, works like new after resetting the battery.thx

My JBL Charge (1) is about 3 years old, so battery life is badly deteriorated and is bloated a lot. Is it possible to keep using my JBL Charge always plugged to the charger even with the battery removed?

dukendelmo -

Where do I get a new battery for JBL charge? I can tear it apart but what’s the point if I do t have a replacement battery

dirkjr10 -

Please where can I get JBL Bluetooth Speaker battery in Nigeria. Thanks

LukmanAbubakar -

Isn’t the usb port module available separatly? That weird because it isn’t glued into place on my speaker. It is just that the port itself has broken from the little board (module)

elzing3 -

Great guide … thank you very much. If I was going to add anything, it would be a little warning about opening the main cover. I’ve got fairly strong hands, and I found it pretty difficult to fully separate the cover from the main body, even once I had it started at the corner shown in the guide. The adhesives used by the manufacturer around the edges of this cover are strong, and you have to be patient/careful as you apply the force required to pry all the edges of the cover up and away from the main body, e.g., so you don’t lose control of the Charge, the cover, or your tool as you’re working.
