This guide will show you how to replace the Motherboard.

    • Make sure the phone is powered off.

    • Remove the rear cover by placing the plastic opening tool in the groove on the bottom left side of the LG G4 and gently prying up.

    • Place the plastic opening tool at the bottom edge of the battery and lift up. Carefully remove battery with your hands.

    • Remove the eleven 3.9 mm Phillips #00 screws found at the back of the phone.

    • Once all the screws have been removed, place the plastic opening tool in the lower left corner and firmly lift the cover up.

    • Detach the cover with your fingers

    • Remove the following four press-fit connectors with the flat edge of a plastic spudger or opening tool:

    • Front-facing camera connector.

    • Rear-facing camera connector.

    • Digitizer connector.

    • The rear-facing camera may be held down to the frame with two sided tape. Try to move the camera with the spudger prior to lifting the motherboard If it does not budge, use the same tool to pry it from the frame to avoid damaging the connector cable in the next step.

    There is a ribbon on the left of the camera. Use spudger to lift this so that the camera is left behind. Do not fiddle with the rear facing camera.

    I second that! Just unsnap the camera connector like the other two. Unsticking the camera instead is silly, when that is so much simpler. Please update this to mark the third connector to be unsnapped.

    I lifted the ribbon but I can't get it to stick back down!

    I tried lifting the ribbon but it didn't unsnap… it actually felt like it ripped off. I couldn't get it to “snap” back down like the other ones.

    I realize this is over a year old, but for anyone else’s future reference you can find replacement boards on ebay. There is even a seller with brand new 700’s serial number boards (AKA the last batches available after the bootloop recalls). I think the name is “gsmplaza” IIRC; they’re based in Israel and are the only sellers selling BRAND NEW boards, not refurbished or used, so it shouldn’t be hard to find.

Where can I get a motherboard? I have been looking everywhere with no luck.

If you had it less then a year lg will send u a replacement but if your phone is damaged they will charge u just say it's not damage and swap the boards and send them the new one back so u won't be charged they won't notice I just did it

@ Alex - How did you get them to send you the logic board? My phone is under warranty, but they want me to send it in. I am not the original owner, so I'm not sure what the charges will be.

Yes. LG G4 is faulty device...My motherboard crashed in December last year. LG fixed it because it was in warranty period. Then there was another problem in display(in April) LG replaced entire front because it was in warranty. Now its July the replaced mother board crashed again but now its out of warranty. This is the first time bought LG device. Trust LG, Lenovo, Acer, etc ain't good at making devices

I had Samsung Note, Note 2, Note 3, Note 4, Galaxy S2, Galaxy S4, S5, S6, Edge...newer faced any problem with Samsung devices. Go with Nexus/ Samsung/ Cyanogen....or buy an iPhone(iPhone never die)

Can the author or someone post where to resolder the motherboard to fix the problem for phones out of warranty - I have a Hakko hot air rework station for this.

I have 2 G4's that died after the warranty expired. LG wants me to pay for repair but would not be able to tell me the cost until they determined the issue. It's a boot loop issue and they can't figured it out. their customer service sucks. It's a hardware manufacturing problem but they never acknowledge it until they were pressured. I will never buy any LG product again.

LG G4 is faulty mobile. I think all LG mobile series have some or the other issues. Plz dont waste money in buying LG mobiles. Go for Iphone or Samsung. We 3friends had purchased it same time. And all three of us had faced same issued Motherboard Crashed. Two of them got replaced in warranty but mine is now outoff warranty. One of my friend after changing MB once again after 6months his MB crashed.

Thank you for the advice and information. You have just answered my question I was thinking about doing, replacing the motherboard. I liked the phone very much but the fact that LG sold the phones knowing the motherboard issue did it for me. I won’t be buying any more of their products. I don’t want to take a $400+ chance again.

What function does the mainboard smaller part (under NFC chip) have?

I have the mainboard with that smaller thin lateral side (antenna I think) broken but it works apparently normal: bluetooth, wi-fi signal, carrier signal, etc
