    • Remove the following four press-fit connectors with the flat edge of a plastic spudger or opening tool:

    • Front-facing camera connector.

    • Rear-facing camera connector.

    • Digitizer connector.

    • The rear-facing camera may be held down to the frame with two sided tape. Try to move the camera with the spudger prior to lifting the motherboard If it does not budge, use the same tool to pry it from the frame to avoid damaging the connector cable in the next step.

There is a ribbon on the left of the camera. Use spudger to lift this so that the camera is left behind. Do not fiddle with the rear facing camera.

I second that! Just unsnap the camera connector like the other two. Unsticking the camera instead is silly, when that is so much simpler. Please update this to mark the third connector to be unsnapped.

    Eric Schwarzenbach -

I lifted the ribbon but I can't get it to stick back down!

    Jeff Elliotson -

I tried lifting the ribbon but it didn't unsnap… it actually felt like it ripped off. I couldn't get it to “snap” back down like the other ones.

    • Remove the motherboard by lifting it up using the plastic opening tool and your fingers .

My LG G4 has stopped working. Was told it needs board replacement. How do I get the motherboard. I reside in Nigeria.

    Niyi Adedokun -

I realize this is over a year old, but for anyone else’s future reference you can find replacement boards on ebay. There is even a seller with brand new 700’s serial number boards (AKA the last batches available after the bootloop recalls). I think the name is “gsmplaza” IIRC; they’re based in Israel and are the only sellers selling BRAND NEW boards, not refurbished or used, so it shouldn’t be hard to find.

    • Gently wedge the plastic opening tool under the ribbon where the rear camera cable is connected, and slowly lift up to detach the cable from the mother board.

I preformed this replacement on my LG G4 and found it to be very easy. However, between Steps 5 and 6, I will note a Warning...My camera was firmly attached to the frame with double sided tape. I simply removed the cable connector for the camera prior to lifting the Motherboard off of the frame (Step 6) and then pried the camera off of the frame using the spudger tool. I was able to reuse the tape on the replacement camera.

If i power on the phone with the module removed, will it cause any shorting or damage?

I just did this last night. Phone works great but now My camera does not work.. Any tips

John Gregory -

Also noticed my flash doesn't work anymore. Proximity sensor stopped working and the ability to tap and wake the screen doesn't work either... Any help would be much appreciated

John Gregory -

Ordered the part from this website and my phone doesn't recognize the new part. I had to reinstall the old broken camera for it to recognize.

Chelsea Ryan -

Did you ever find a solution to this issue? Tried ordering two rear camera module replacements but neither is recognized by phone... So frustrating.

Josh Shriner -

I have the same problem. Installed new camera but phone does not recognize it. When I try to run the camera, it only shows me the selfie camera with no option to switch to rear camera. When I re-install the original factory installed camera, it works (though it is blurry bc it is apparently damaged). No idea what to try next. Factory reset does not help.

Eric Evans -

If anyone has had the problem I just described, and learned of a solution elsewhere, please share your info here, thanks.

Eric Evans -

@eric878 , Please let me know if you find a fix for this.

I ordered two different LG G4 rear camera modules but phone does NOT recognize the camera upon installation. So i have to revert to my broken camera.

Any help?

Josh Shriner -

Anyone find an answer to the problem above? Something with firmware perhaps?

matthew.franck -

Same thing here! Replaced the camera and its not recognizing it. I guess ifixit is icantfixit!

Christopher Hess -

same here. camera not recognized after replacement; "camera error camera unavailable"

ef it -

Worked fine straight away recognised. This is the 2nd time I have replaced the rear camera since the 1st replacement gave me the "green dot" on every picture with bright light. This had now disappeared and is working like new with the 2nd replacement installed.

Pounamu -

Any solution to the problem? I just replaced the camera with a new one but not recoqnized. I tried cache and data restore, rtfd but still not working

spiridon.xristakis -

My rear camera would constantly go in and out of focus. Ordering and replacing this replacement camera solved the issue. It's a USCellular model, and the phone recognized it immediately and it's been fine ever since. Just an FYI for those debating on purchase.

Hello

I replace the display because the original broken. I removed the rear camera module from magnesium frame but I cannot reuse the two sided tape behind the camera on the new display. The new display does not contain two sided tape .

My question: What is the original function this tape? I mean it is only a holding part or does it have electrical grounding or heat conducting effect? What can I use instead of this part?

Kazmer Double -

I think the problem mentioned could be electrostatic sensitivity of the camera. I had to open the phone to replace the LCD screen, without any precautions, and the camera (that was working perfectly before) is not available anymore, as the torch. So i ordered the camera and on the bag it’s written that it’s a “static sensitive device”. I will wait for an antistatic stuff, to open it in a safe way.
