Use this guide to replace a single key on your Lenovo IdeaPad Y510P. This repair may be needed if a stuck key broken key impedes typing ability. Repeated use of a key can cause the key to feel as if it sticks and does not press back immediately. By following the steps listed in the guide, you will be walked through a simple disassembly of any individual key, and how to replace it. Use of too much pressure at any point throughout the guide can damage the mounting point for the key, or key hinge.

Locate the key that is behaving abnormally.

Gently insert a spudger underneath the key cap.

Gently lift the key out of the hinge socket by using a prying motion. The key cap should lift out easily.

Using a similar motion to the previous step, insert the prying tool under the white key hinge and pry.

At this point you can now replace the key hinge with a new part, or decompress the hinge and place it in the same position it was originally in.

You may now place your key cap back onto the hinge by guiding the center of the key onto the center of the hinge.

You were successful with the repair if you press the key and it returns to its initial position immediately.

If you adjusted the key hinge, rather than replacing it, test the key to ensure the behavior was fixed. If the key still sticks on press, repeat the guide and replace the hinge as compared to adjusting it.
