Use this guide to replace the smart card reader in a Lenovo ThinkPad T460.

The smart card reader’s job is to read a smart card, which is a device used to store data and provide login authentication.

If you cannot retrieve data or log in to your laptop using a smart card, or if you are experiencing error messages when using a smart card, you may need to replace your laptop’s smart card reader.

Make sure to disable the internal battery, power down your device, and disconnect from any external power sources before you begin.
