The battery is one of the most common components in need of replacement. This guide contains instructions for removing the 3.7 V lithium-ion polymer battery in the Nook BNRV300 device. This device is also called the “Nook Simple Touch.”

Without a properly-functioning battery, your Nook will not operate. First try troubleshooting your Nook device using these guides if your Nook does not power on, or your Nook will not hold a charge. If your Nook device still fails to operate properly, then follow this Nook BNRV300 Battery Replacement Guide.

Warning: If the battery is swelling, causing discoloration, or smelling bad, removing it may be dangerous. If you suspect your battery is damaged, see this helpful guide for what to do with a swollen battery.

    • Power off your Nook before working on your device. Hold the power button for about 5 seconds and select the “Power Off” option.

    • Turn the Nook over to find the power button along the back upper edge.

    • Wedge the spudger between the top of the power button and the upper edge of the device.

    • Push the tool down to pry the button up and off.

You should pull up from the bottom of the button. It will hing up and pop off easier and less chance of breaking the button. There is a hing on the top side of the button to pivot down to the bottom where the button is. The clips are near the bottom of the button. You are more likely to break the pivot pins doing it from the top.

    • Peel off the white sticker that is covering the screw head.

    • Remove the one 2mm-long screw using a size T5 Torx screwdriver.

    • Wedge an opening tool between the back cover and the front plastic border at the top of the device (near the power button).

    • This will require some force.

    • Slide the opening tool along the edges of the device, prying up until you are able to use your fingers to remove the back cover.

    • The back cover snaps as it pops off. This is normal.

There is no need to pry the cover off. Just slide the back cover down toward the USB port.

This right here! It requires little to no force to do this. You are more likely to break the clips if you force it open.

    • Use tweezers to remove the brass-colored threaded fastener from the Nook plastic casing.

There’s absolutely no reason to do this. This part of the device is never touched again for the rest of the guide.

    • The battery is located on the inside back cover of the Nook.

    • Do not use metal tools when prying up the battery. This may puncture the battery and cause harm to you and/or your device.

    • Insert a nylon spudger beneath the clear plastic adhesive holding the battery to the back cover.

    • Work around the battery, peeling up all of the adhesive.

Check the comments on each step. There are some adjustments to the process to properly and safely take this apart.
