    • Remove the lens, battery, SD Card, and EVF eye cup

  3. lMkbVWsWMQZtACWm
    • Unscrew all the screws you can find on the outside of the camera, except those on the lens mount and those on the LCD itself. Watch the video for a rundown of each screw location. https://youtu.be/miKYy9vUyWk

  4. 1nAwMjVRYHXxDlHL
    • Use the utility knife to pull the rubber covers from the front of the camera. Don't pull off the thumb grip.

  5. x4LGD6UckRWFQESV
    • Remove the screws from the front of the camera. (not the ones on the silver lens mount)

  6. tSKKvj1Q5Sy1wTxd
    • Pull the camera apart.

  7. KCugQPnMWgHim26t
    • Lift the tiny black flap that holds the ribbon cable for the LCD to the camera body. This releases the ribbon, you shouldn't need to pull on the ribbon with any force.

  8. IOqJtSKgO5E6mDiQ
    • If you want to remove the top plate, you will need to release this ribbon cable, as well as remove two screws on the sides next to the camera strap connection points.

  9. UEXXfb2bWJS6GYpU
    • You may also need to remove this ribbon cable to lift the top plate.

    • Even after doing all this, you will still not be able to completely remove the top plate, doing so would require a more complete disassembly.

    • From here you can attempt a repair of your device.

    • Salt water damage can often be repaired by rinsing the inside of your camera with isopropyl alcohol or distilled water.

When reassembling the camera, is there a preferred and/or recommended adhesive for the grips removed in Step 4?

Thank you

tjod -

I found the original adhesive was still sticky enough to reassemble without adding anything.

Thanks. I’ll try that. If not possibly some rebber cement will do the trick.

Do you have any experience in dealing with the pop-up flash? Does it contain a bulb or a filament?

Thanks for this post! Very useful.

Will it continue for other mirrorless cameras?

I am particularly interested in the information of the e-m5 mark ii. Is its disassembly done in the similar way?

Thanks for this guide!

Do you know how to replace the screw mount for the tripod?

The screw of my old tripod is broken and stuck inside the mount.

Hope you can help me!

Step 8: If you want to remove the top plate, you will need to release this ribbon cable, as well as remove two screws on the sides next to the camera strap connection points.

Step 9: You may also need to remove this ribbon cable to lift the top plate.

Even after doing all this, YOU WILL STILL NOT BE ABLE TO COMPLETELY REMOVE THE TOP PLATE

Step 10: Curse the moron who wrote this guide for putting the words in bold succeeding rather than preceding the others !!!

NO information is better than BAD information. This is bad information. FYI there are more than 2 screws required to remove the topplate

I am looking without success for the plastic part serving as a rotary lever for the start switch of the Olympus OMD E-M5 mark1
