    • Twist the focal cap clockwise until it is fully extended.

    • Remove the focal cap by pulling it straight out.

The pictures don't really do justice to how hard it is to pop the focal cap off. One actually has to pull pretty hard, I was afraid of breaking something, but it all worked out.

    • Use a Phillips #1 screwdriver to remove the three 7.5mm screws on the bottom of the device.

  3. DCYmASOdC2krhjVQ
    • Use a plastic opening tool to gently pry the top cover off of the device.

    • It is easier to pry off the cover from the back side just above the HDMI ports.

    • When removing the cover, be cautious of the ribbon connecting the top buttons to the main circuit board. The ribbon must be disconnected before proceeding.

    • Remove the ribbon by disconnecting it from the main circuit board.

    • Lift up the clip holding it down and pull the ribbon out.

The black part is the clip that lifts up. Then gently tug on the cable.

The instructions are out of order here.

Wish I had read your comment before struggling with it for what seemed like hours.

Any advice for if you rip that ribbon?

Yes… Advice for when you go into this BEFORE consulting the internet and accidentally RIP it out?

    • Use the plastic opening tool to remove the wiring.

Removing the white ribbon wire on mine required pushing out toward the ribbon a gray/brown piece that holds the ribbon in place. Once it is moved out, it slides out easily. No lifting needed, just pushing.

    • Use a Phillips #1 screwdriver to remove the 5.5 mm screws around the pin wheel.

    • Use a Phillips #1 screwdriver to remove 1 more 5.5 mm screw.

  8. FEhR24JLkedXmZOB
    • Using a flat head screw driver unscrew the back part to release the color wheel.

    • Do this carefully because these screws do not pull out.

    • Once unscrewed, remove the color wheel, and replace the part.

I've seen 5 guides say that the lens adjustment cover just pulls straight out, but even with significant force, it doesn't budge. Are there two different versions of the HD20 with two different designs for the cover?

I couldn't get the shroud off until I had the plastic top of the projector mostly off.

dlwalter -

The shroud has clips on it that attach to some bolts coming off the lense so yeah, it will take some force to pop the clips.

dlwalter -

It literally pops off. It has 3 slips on it but they all undo at the same time you pull it straight out.

I have this projector and the color wheel broke. I replaced it, as well as the lamp, but now it is in black and white with the new parts. Could it be the wrong color wheel? what else could cause it? I have tried 2 different color wheels i bought online and both show black and white.

Hi Eric, I'm also planning to buy a color wheel to replace the broken one ! Can you tell me on which site did you buy them ? Maybe we could figure out which one is the right one to pick
Cheers, Tom
