Einleitung

The incident:

The coffee machine isn't working anymore. It is blinking quickly all the time.

The problem:

The coffee machine needs a magnet in a floater to indicate how much water is in the tank. That magnet was completely oxidized and, therefore, did not work anymore.

The challenge:

Replace the floater with something else to make the machine "believe" that there is still enough water.

    • I did that with an old metal coat hanger.

    • Attach a strong magnet to the area where the floater normally resides, to make the machine "believe" that there is enough water.

    • The problem with that is the risk, that it can damage the machine and result in a power failure when there is no water.

    • While preparing a coffee, hold a magnet next to the area where the floater resides when there is water in the tank, to make the machine "believe" that there is still a floater, which indicates that there is enough water.

    • Do that only while preparing a coffee. Switch off the machine and remove the magnet when you are done.

    • In this case, I used a magnet from an old hard disk.

    • The alternative would be to buy a replacement water tank (around 21 EUR), which contains a floater with a magnet.

...or use Philips Senseo II 7810 HD Magnet für den Wasserstandssensor to replace the magnet. It's easy and the magnet ist cheap.

Abschluss

The coffee machine needs a magnet in a floater to indicate how much water is in the tank. That magnet may, after some year, oxidize and, therefore, cause the machine not to work anymore.

The challenge is making the coffee machine "believe" that there is still enough water.
