Einleitung
If there are alarm conditions sounding when they shouldn’t be, or if alarms are not sounding when they should be, you will need to use this guide to reset the alarms of the Puritan Bennett 540. You will not need any tools or parts besides the ventilator itself. There are no difficult steps, but please pay close attention to the warnings before starting this guide.
Warnings:
- When an alarm is triggered, or there is evidence of a patient-ventilator problem, examine the patient first before examining the ventilator.
- Handle respirator with care, as it may be very hot.
- Double-check the alarm volume after you have finished working on the alarms, it should be loud enough for the patient’s caretaker to hear.

Press the down arrow key to position the cursor on the “Alarm Logs” line, if this is not already the case.

Press the up arrow key to position the cursor on the “Reactivate Paused Alarm” line. The following graphic shows the resulting display.

Press the Enter key for at least three (3) seconds. The following events occur:

A “beep” sounds.

An audible alarm sounds.

An alarm indicator illuminates.

The messages of all active alarms are displayed in a loop in the Ventilation and Alarm menus.

The Audio Paused symbol disappears (if it was displayed).

The Alarm Paused symbol disappears.

There is no need to reassemble the device, but if the condition persists you can try resetting the audio again.
