Einleitung
Mavica (Magnetic Video Camera) is a discontinued brand of Sony cameras that use removable discs as the main recording medium. On August 25, 1981, Sony presented a prototype of the Sony Mavica as the world's first electronic fixed camera.
As with all Mavica cameras until the early 90s (including later commercially sold models) this first model was not digital. Its CCD sensor produced an analog video signal in NTSC format with a resolution of 570 × 490 pixels. Mavipak 2.0" discs (later adopted throughout the industry as Video Floppy and labeled "VF") were used to write 50 still frames on tracks on the disk. The images could be shown on a television screen, using a ‘special playback display unit’ connected to the TV.
