    • Use a push pin or tweezers to remove the neoprene screw-cover located on the upper, left corner of the back casing.

This detail is important for other Sanyo flip phones as well. I was swapping motherboards in a pair of SCP-3820s where one had a broken display, and the screws under these neoprene screw covers had me stymied for a while!

    • Unscrew all four, 5mm Tri-Wing screws.

Tri-wing screws are a reason I hate Sanyo with my entire being. If you haven’t experienced them before, you will need to purchase a specialty screwdriver tip, often called a Y-tip or a tri-wing tip. In my case working on a Sanyo SCP-3820, the 2.5 size worked, but I could have used the 2.0 as well. No other style of screwdriver will work.

    • Pry the back casing off the device using a spudger. Work your way along the edges to completely separate the back casing from the device.

    • This step may require extra force. But too much force could break the back casing.

    • Remove the headphone jack cover when separating the back casing. The headphone jack is located on the opposite side of the antenna.
