This guide will show how to replace the speaker component of the Sony SRS-X5.

  1. MUtIhPPaCxEBOXHR
    • To gain access to the 6 bottom screws remove the following. Remove the adhered 4 corner foam pads on the bottom of the speaker using the blue plastic opening tool to reveal the screws underneath. Remove the adhered 2 center plastic squares.

    • Make sure the speaker is unplugged and powered down before doing any work on the device.

Be consistent with vocabulary. For example, on the first step you used "foam pieces" and "pads" to identify the same thing and it may be confusing for some users.

    • To remove the speaker grill, first push down slightly on the 2 plastic hook tabs to release them, then push the middle plastic screw tab out.

not sure how to do this.

some how the middle parts is hard to push

Remove the panel NOT by pushing or pulling the centre tab or you will break it. Instead, you’ll see two small tabs that must gently be pushed a little. Do not apply too much force. Once the grille comes loose pull it up. The upper side of the grille simply locks into place by moulded lips that fit into the top section of the product. Take care not to damage the now exposed loudspeakers.

And you guessed it , where the !&&* do you find one of these woofers to replace the crapped out original . At this point my x5 is pretty much useless and only just out of warranty.

Can any one please suggest a replacement from any where on this earth ???????

guys, you can repair the speaker cone with neoprene glue, put a layer on the cut, let dry all night and go.

Neither Sony nor their parts distributors have replacement parts for the SRS-X5, except for the 12.5V power unit. The customer service agent I spoke to told me that this was a repair by replacement model. Besides that they could not tell me if any parts (in this case the speakers) were used in any other Sony products that may have available stock. I’m checking eBay for second hand parts and then avoiding Sony products. I’m frustrated at the idea of throwing out an otherwise decent product for lack of a $5 part.
