If your Walkman is working but you cannot play cassettes, you may need to replace the band that connects the film revolvers. This guide shows you how to do so.

    • Using a spudger, separate the back cover from the front.

    • Remove the back cover evenly on all sides. The best method is to insert the spudger and gently twist it slightly to separate the two parts, slowly working your way around the entire outer shell.

    • Replace the band, ensuring that it wraps around both large plastic revolvers and the small metal one.

Would be useful to see the path of the band around these parts.

    • This picture shows how the belt was set when I opened a Walkman WM-FX10.

    • I think you can rely on the same arrangement in other Walkman's

I'm looking at a Sony WM-FX195 and the arrangement appears to be totally different. There's a wheel on the left (the same) but on the right there's only the motor. The right hand wheel is not present and the belt is very loose.

"How to replace the band":

Step 1: Open it.

Step 2: Replace the band.

Really? That's it?! Not very useful.

No Thanks -

I need to know the belt track. I'm thinking there is a particular path the belt must follow. Do you know it? Your photo shows no belt (band).

Helped. Wanted an idea of how to open, before breaking it!
