Einleitung

Use this guide to replace a broken or worn-down pull start rope from a Stihl BG 50 gas-powered leaf blower.

The purpose of the pull start rope is to start the combustion engine. The rope can become brittle if it is not used frequently or it may begin to tear after extensive use. If the rope is only dirty it is not necessary to replace it. If the rope has already broken, Step 2 can be skipped.

Be sure to removing the fuel from the blower’s fuel tank to prevent a fire hazard.

The old rope should be disposed of, but the pull start handle can be kept as a spare part.

    • Hold the starter rope in a U shape.

    • Cut the rope with a knife without letting go of the rope going in the blower.

    • Letting go of the rope will make the rope pull itself rapidly into the starter pulley. This may damage other components.

    • Spin the starter pulley clockwise until a noise is heard.

    • Letting go of the starter pulley will make it spin counter-clockwise. This may result in a small bruise or cut. To avoid this, make sure to have a strong grip on the starter pulley and spin it slowly.

    • Having someone help to insert the rope through the holes will make these steps easier.

    • While holding the starter pulley, insert the end of the rope lacking the knot.

    • When it comes out the other side of the starter pulley, pull it through.

    • Without letting go of the starter pulley, insert the rope through the orange case and pull it taut.

Abschluss

When the pull start rope is pulled, it should wind back. If it does not, a mistake might have occurred when changing the new rope when winding it inside the starter pulley.
