The joystick on this controller is used to steer for certain flight simulation video games. This guide will show you how to replace the spring inside the joystick so that it maneuvers smoothly.

    • Gently pull the panel away from the controller.

To completely remove the panel, there's one last screw hidden under the rectangular pad which secures the cable in place.

My defective HOTAS 4 has a PCB marked HOTAS X PS4. Is this not selling short? From your picture I find that this PCB is different.

Has anyone ever regreased this joystick?

Jessy Burchall -

i have, it didn’t solve my jittering problem entirely, but it squeaks less. used silicone lubricant, spray type. applied liberally at the part where you have to regrease, sprayed in the holes and springs.

I’m having terrible issues with jitter in my negative-Y direction (“pulling up” in a craft). This is a brand new joystick, and I basically can’t chase enemies in dogfights because of the unreliability of my ability to pull up.

Messing with the spring didn’t really help — does anyone have additional advice for this or other things I can try to fix this?

Evan Tidd -

Same issue as Evan, no luck fixing it at all -.-

Scott Slupik -

Same issue here as well. After tens of hours of use it is starting now to not properly respond, particularly when I pull it toward me (pointing up with the aircraft muzzle). I’ve been using it on Star Wars Squadrons and I regulated the wheel (the one on the base side) so that the stick opposed less resistance possible, because dogfights in the game require frequent sudden changes of direction (at expense of my wrist). It has worked fine for many hours. Now this issue.

If greasing your stick did not fix anything, you might want to look at the four anchor screws that are the base of the joystick (white resistance housing unit). Two of the post were broken off from the shell which is causing the stick to tilt over and lean.
