Einleitung

Hallo zusammen

Not only XFLIN and DW, there are no EAC or CE Mark on the original controllers…

    Sk. Ahnaf Al Mehd -

I have “EAC” on my original controller https://imgur.com/QFURUeB

    Konrad -

    Noted. Thanks for your comment!

    koppie007 -

The fake ones also have NOM

    John David -

Noted, thanks! There are so many fakes around, all of them have different letters and numbers at their serial numbers… :(

    koppie007 -

    Fabian Neidhardt -

Go here https://repairs.playstation.com/s/troubl... and ask for repair. Sony will ask the serial and you'll instantly know

  2. mCuEPQbLfGnJvCMw
    mCuEPQbLfGnJvCMw
    ZdXu4GW5vyutoboZ
    161lpmxBIuBgrvf1

Sorry, could you help me with a component I am looking for the JDM 030?? It's a capacitor, but I don't know what's the capacity. I was traying to change the joystick and with my little screwdriver I accidently took it off. Ando now doesn't work.

    Chris -

    Hi Chris,

what is the capacitor telling? The value should be on the capacitor, or check the motherboard. Otherwise, please post a picture so I can take a look :). Thanks!

  5. CJW1moSIum3ZPXsn
    CJW1moSIum3ZPXsn
    ekuRkE2FdDr4HZX1
    3YytepIPOkvgMlpl

    Luis Gómez -

So my motherboard looks real but battery looks fake. Battery is blue. Motherboard writing is in gold. Weird

    PlayerISKnownAs KingRealOne -

The important questions:

1. Is the fake controller able to wake up the console from sleep?

2. Does the fake controller work in all games and apps? The buttons or sticks do not feeling identical are okay, e.g. unstable analog controls are not okay.

mikko.rantalainen -

1. Sometimes no. It depends on the fake (there are many different fakes), but some of them are not able to wake up the console from sleep.

2. It should work in every app and game, but due the soldered on thumb sticks (they do not use the original ones) they do not respond every time or feeling identical. Some fakes uses a totally different input board which is causing that it’s unresponsive and/or not feeling identical to the original.

koppie007 -

But how do you know if the casing is fake?

So far I have bought 1 fake controller and also found out that the plastic where the motherboard is on also is fake as you can't use original motherboard on that plastic as there seems to be some bad measures to the plastic part. Witch make the pad get stuck when closing.

Dani -

Hi!

It can be very hard to see it from the outside. Did it came with the original battery or a fake on too? You need to modify the plastic part, otherwise it won’t fit I’m afraid..

koppie007 -

1. Do original DUALSHOCK 4 (CUH - ZCT2) series controller's serial numbers start with a special number? For example the DUALSHOCK first version starts with 1 and second version starts with 2. One of the serial number starts with 3911 and the other with 1911. Will I be able to check anywhere whether the serial numbers belong to original series or not?

2. Without opening both my controllers, everything matches with the original ones as per your findings above. However the L3 and R3 buttons function on their own and doesn't let me control the player and camera angle fully. The controllers have never been dropped or any physical damage caused.

Darshan Thykandy -

Hi! First of all: I’m sorry for the late response!

1. All the serial numbers are unique as far as I know. The fake one starts with: “DW1711”. My original V2 starts with: “1611” and another one of my original controllers (V2) starts with: “2611”.

NOTE: Only the fake one displays at the back after 800mA: “XF.LIN”, all the other controllers do not have those letters on it…

2. That’s difficult to say, as the L3 and R3 buttons are working for the fake one as I showed in the pictures. It depends to be honest, there are so many different fake controllers on the market.. But it should not do things on it’s own, is it new ? Or did you bought a used item?

koppie007 -

I think I got frauded with a fake V2 controller.

Idk how to identify it but there is absolutely no jdm or jds on the motherboard.

Can i contact you please?

Philippe Andraos -

Hi!

Where did you bought the controller? Can you return it? Is the battery the same as the orignal battery?

koppie007 -

Hi. I bought a controller and its the same as the real one. the sounds and everything is the same. But when I turn it on the light it is turquoise. Is it fake? And it doesnt have XF.LIN after 800mAh

SneakerSensor -

Hi!

Well it could be an original one which is repaired (charging/LED board replaced). Or, it’s a pretty good fake… You need to open up the controller to be sure! Sry..

koppie007 -

Sir, its a new one its the neo versa controller.

SneakerSensor -

Alright. Where did you bought the controller? The light (when searching for the PS4 as example) should be a white bright light.

koppie007 -

Sir, i bought it from a store nearby my house. It was for 71$

SneakerSensor -

And the seller had fake controllers. He told me when the real ones arrive i will call you. He called and i bought the new one

SneakerSensor -

Sir i think if the controller is fake, the neo versa code shouldn’t work as well. But it did work. (Correct me if im wrong.)

SneakerSensor -

Could be a real one though, but not sure. The white light should look like this: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=264xa2geOB...

Don’t mind the title of the vid, just want to show how the white light should look like.

koppie007 -

Sir, when you see the real one its bright blue in irl. But in videos it looks like that. And the screws at the back are the same.

SneakerSensor -

Edit: the screws are JUST a little bit different

SneakerSensor -

The stickers and everything is exactly the same as the real one.

SneakerSensor -

Lol sir im sorry the screws are the same

SneakerSensor -

I think you got yourself a real one then :). You should be fine.

koppie007 -

Ok thanks. But does it depend on the light

SneakerSensor -

And sir I unscrewed them. And the length of the screws was the same as the real one.

SneakerSensor -

Sir how do u reply???? I'm new to this

SneakerSensor -

On the reply button, go to the person his/her name and check the right side. There should come up": “Reply”.

Yeah, It’s real. It does not only depend on the light :).

koppie007 -

ok thanks alot

SneakerSensor -

Your welcome :)!

koppie007 -

Lol when iwas unscrewing the controller and i was trying to open it up. It got dents. But idc its working

SneakerSensor -

''does your controller have dents as well?''

SneakerSensor -

Short answer, but: yes :)

koppie007 -

OKthanks for ur cooperation

SneakerSensor -

Your welcome :)!

koppie007 -

Recently bought a new Midnight Blue controller when I first charged it the light bar turned on and off like usual, but after a couple days or so when I charge it the light bar just turns off after a couple seconds., is this normal?

Apexii -

Hi!

When it’s charging the lightbar should blink orange all the time long. When it’s not blinking orange it’s not charging or done charging. Are you still able to turn the controller on? Anyway, you should have warranty on it, so you could return it. Looks like the battery is bad.

koppie007 -

Hi. I recently bought a controller from a shop near my house. The screws, the stickers at the back and the quality is the same as the real one. And it doesnt have XF.LIN after 800mAh. But the thing is when its searching for the ps4, the color is turquoise. Is it a fake or a real?

John David -

Also, it came with an instruction manual.

John David -

Sir im waiting for ur response sir please respond

John David -

SIr i have opened the controller and has the real sony battery inside

John David -

Bro also when i opened it up the ribbon cable was on the right not on the left. But the micro usb is in gold as the real one

John David -

When you opened it up and the battery is as the original and the USB/LED board looks like the original one (with text in gold instead of white), you’re good to go. Those are genuine parts.

koppie007 -

Sir also when i saw the gold text I couldn’t find jdm. Bcz it was a little short. Also

John David -

Also sir the ribbon cable was on the right not on the left.

John David -

Depends on the model! It could be that it’s connected at the other side. And otherwise you need to post pictures as I can determine if it’s real or not.

koppie007 -

So then give me your discord

John David -

Before reading this post, the only thing I knew to look for in an authentic ps4 controller is the JDM number. After not finding one in my new controller and then finding this article to confirm my doubts, I realized just about everything inside this controller screams fake. Here's what I found (much of this is already stated above):

1. Externally the controller seemed completely legitimate, even down to the sticker (though it was not perfectly centered).

2. Pairing light is purplish white.

3. Screws are the same length as original but phillips head cutout was deeper.

4. Battery is 600 mAh and of a different matterial (covered in a soft plastic material compared to the original’s hard plastic). Probably the most damning evidence there is.

5. JDM number is nowhere to be found and is instead replaced be a “C 1949-”.

6. Finally, the disassembly was different than what I'm used to/what I could find online

Overall, I'm pretty bummed out but now I got pretty good evidence to go after this POS ebay vendor. Thanks man.

Jimmy James -

Hi Jimmy! Glad that I could help :)!

There are a lot of different fakes at the market! Please look out for them. When you open up the controller, the battery tells most of the times the truth. Is it genuine or not? If you want to be 100% sure to get a real one, buy (new) from Gamestop, Target, best buy or Wallmart (just named some examples, there are more shops which sells genuine controllers). You can’t be 100% sure if you buy it at Ebay or Amazon (examples).

koppie007 -

The jdm055 model has the ribbon cable on the right

John David -

Hi John,

Yes this is different for some models :).

koppie007 -

Hello. I bought the orange ps4 controller, CUH-ZCT2E, from a seller on mercari a few weeks ago. It appears to be legit. I have opened it up and verified that all parts are original Sony. My question is, could it be from a different region as it has “сделано в китае” above “Made in China” in English? I noticed in your photo of the fake one it also has Russian printing. The controller works mostly fine, however it feels slightly different than my other three, which do not have the Russian printing. What is your opinion on this and have you encountered controllers like this before? Thanks

Jason -

Hi Jason,

If all the parts are legit, It’s most certainly a genuine controller! But yes, it’s possible that it’s imported from another country. Which is also possible (but not very likely) that the shell isn’t genuine but all the parts are, this also explains why it feels slightly diferent. All the controllers I had are printed in English. I think your good to go. Perhaps the shell was damaged so they transfered all the parts to another shell.

koppie007 -

Great guide. I recently bought one from eBay (highly rated seller) and it showed up in a legit Sony box and the outer shell was spot on. Had issues connecting and opened it up to find the cheap 600 mAh battery in your picture and a generic board without any JDM number. The only other sign was the sticker on back had a wrinkle in the middle of it as if it was applied by hand and had a serial that started with 2 letters when every other PS controller I have has a serial that starts with numbers. The cheap knock offs are getting more convincing.

Shawn M -

Hi Shawn,

Thanks! Good to hear that I was able to help you :)!

Yeah, looks like it’s not genuine at all! Unfortunately it’s hard to see if it’s genuine (outer shell).. Glad that you found out that the one from the seller is not genuine.

koppie007 -

So question, if you do end up with a fake controller can you switch out the insides with official parts?

R Ramos -

Hi Ramos,

Yes, you can swap the parts for original parts :)! But it will be difficult to find a genuine motherboard.. but if you got one, you could swap that one too. There are a lot of different controller types (JDM-001, JDM-030, JDM-040 and more) so be sure you got the correct parts for the model you need.

koppie007 -

Thank you so much brother your clarification really helped me. I really appreciate the real and fake difference, now i know that i have to buy an original controller rather waste my money on the fake one.

Qasim Amjad -

Your welcome! Glad I could help :)!

koppie007 -

sir i just recently bought a ps4 controller and it seems to be real but that’s not the problem… the problem is that to joysticks are delayed and i tried stick drift methods but it didn’t work i plugged in my old one and it is like normal but the new one i got the joysticks don’t feel right. Any suggestions?

Joshua -

Hi! Well to be honest, I think there is a issue with the analog sticks but this doesn’t mean they are fake, also the orginal ones are capable of failing… If you just recently bought it, I would return it and swap it for a new one.

koppie007 -

koppie007 -

What about the color of the inside analog?

TacticalShazli -

Usually the original ones are “green” and the fake ones are “white”. But they do vary sometimes.

koppie007 -

OMG! I just ordered the replica of the Dualshock 4 because it is almost 3 times cheaper than the original, and I just realized that they gave me the original XD all the points agree.

Ronny -

Nice!! Where did you bought the controller if I may ask :)?

koppie007 -

So mine is a gen3 v1 model 11 f1 with the serial number all numbers ,no letters as the serial number , am I good ?

victororta101 -

Hi!

Sry for the late response. Yes, some serial numbers do have numbers only. To be sure, you could open it up and check the battery (if there is no warranty on it and bought as used as example).

koppie007 -

Hello, sorry I need help ..

I dropped the original remote into the water, just a few seconds and not completely submerged.

Now it only works connected to the charger cable, could it be repaired? and how? , Thank you

Valeria Ramos -

Yes it could be repaired. You first need to open up the controller and clean everything with isopropyl alcohol. Make sure everything is dry and that there are no white spots there (oxidized). Probably your battery needs to be replaced too.. But first test before you replace parts :).

koppie007 -

koppie007 -

Just wanna say thankyou Very Very much for this guide!! I just got a used Purple DS4 from Ebay in auction for $30 shipped and to my surprise its Lagit!! I am soo friggen happy!! I probably wont use it a whole lot because my green camo one just feels the best for some reason, but that purple sure is sexy!!

austin eds -

Haha your welcome :D! I’m happy to hear that it is a genuine controller! Good luck with gaming!!

koppie007 -

I bought a rose gold one from Walmart 3rd party seller and I swear it's fake. The sticker on the back was bubbled but and doesn't have the things mentioned on the fake but had H instead of DW in front of the letters. The screws are different (not in length though). Also the buttons look a bit matted where as on my actual PS4 controller they're shiny. Another thing I noticed was the options and share buttons look like they were sticker stencils and the paint is crackled where they were removed. But when connecting to my PS4 it even comes up as a dual shock PS4 controller, so am I being paranoid??

Maysa Terry -

It could be a fake though. The serial number can differ. The screws should always be the same (as all originals have the same kind of screws in it). And if the buttons look to shiny, it indicates that it’s not original (most likely..). There are many fakes out there, and they do differ from each other. The fake controller (this one from the guide) also shows as genuine at my PS4. If you don’t trust it all, don’t hesitate to contact Walmart.

koppie007 -

Question will the package always have a barcode printed? Mine has a sticker which already screams fake. When looking for ps4 is blue and when charging it flashes for about 5 seconds and then goes dark.

Caleb K -

No, the package can differ from each other due so many fakes that are out there :(. Do you have pictures regarding the controller? Perhaps I can help you to identify the controller being genuine or not.

koppie007 -

can a battery be sorted on the fake controller as not charging

Robert Black -

No. Even the fake battery’s can charge. Maybe your battery is broken :(.

koppie007 -

I have a theory to identify the real one vs. the fake one; but I need confirmation.

The real ones are able to connect by Bluetooth with iPhone/Android and the Bluetooth’s name have to appear like DualShock 4. Did you try to connect a fake one and it show up like DualShock 4 just as the original or the device name is different?

Neo Anderson -

That’s a good one! Never tried that, but I can check in the future what happens :). If they show up, it could be that they have different names. But only by testing, I know for sure. Thanks!

koppie007 -

So I bought my controller from Flipkart a few months back and the L1 is getting stuck and sometimes just doesn't come out I took it to repair to a shopkeeper and he says that it's a fake so can it be repaired or am I just stuck with this broken controller?? Please reply

Piyush Tamchikar -

It depends. There are so many different fakes on the market, so I can’t tell you for sure. I think it’s the rubber inside which is worn/teared. You could try to see if a genuine rubber fits and do the job.

koppie007 -

Hi , I recently bought a limited edition last of us part2 dualshock 4 , the screws are orginal and the battery will keep up around 7,8 hours , but I got worried about some few things : when I take the screws out and tryin to open it up with my hands it wont open , it's so hard , and another thing is it's a little bit lighter than the orginal model that I had before 2016 , and keep that in mind this controller I bought is a new series , and when I press ps button to turn on the PS4 , the color is aqua , something like bright blue , but when I take picture of it , it's bright white , and yeah , I will be so thankful if you respond , thank you ,

Goog -

I forgot to say something , when I charging my new controller , the color is mix of orange and yellow

Goog -

@dan0 koppie007 could u answer ? I will be thankful?

Goog -

I think it’s a genuine controller. The genuine controller is difficult to open anyway. You need to take out the screws, and loose it from the clips. You cant open it with your hands, you need to un-clip it first (ifixit opening picks recommended). I would ignore the led color for now. It’s normal behavior that it’s showing the yellow/orange color while charging.

koppie007 -

@dan0 thank you so much , I can rest easy now , by Knowing that my controller is orginal , thank u

Goog -

Your welcome :)!

koppie007 -

This has helped me figure out controller I got is a fake and explains why parts that I have bought for it don't work.

The motherboard don't have any jdm numbers at all, that button is blue, the USB board does not have jds numbers. It actually has exactly same numbers as the fake you showed. The battery was fake which I tossed out when I upgrades the battery because it wouldn't turn on before, and then the new battery made it work for couple days and now does not work again.

Other things that made me question it was it was the green camo front shell which I have seen before, but the back shell was black. Which if you look up the green camo controller, they are all like a forest green back shell. Never black. I think someone pieced together bunch of parts for this controller so they could sell it with the ps4. My son got the ps4 from his grandpa. He bought it on Facebook marketplace and had it shipped to him.

dahpoop -

Yeah, looks like the controller is not genuine :(. Happy that my guide was able to help you to identify :)!

koppie007 -

I took a shot in the dark and bought a broken controller from Mercari app. Got it, took it apart and everything was genuine. Cleaned it all up with rubbing alcohol and used the shell from the fake controller along with a cool faceplate I bought off Amazon. Had to grind down some plastic to modify and make the board fit in the other controller shell but ended up working great.

dahpoop -

I’ve had my PS4 for over 4 years, had the same controller that came with it, last week I experienced severe stick drift, opened it up to clean it but broke the square green part that connects to the side of the stick. I bought a new controller the next day from a shop in town for £30, which is £20 cheaper, alarm bells didn’t ring, got it home, worked perfectly then i tried to attach my strikepack to it, it didn’t line up properly so had to put it at an angle, once it was all connected it didn’t work. I decided to open up the new pad and swap the motherboards and stick boards but keep the old usb socket, as i opened it the battery came out and the black plastic tray that the battery sits in fell out, supposed to be attached with a screw, the battery looks like the one in the pic of the fake battery, i swapped the boards over, put in the ribbon from the usb port, the pad wouldn’t work. Changed everything back, the pad worked perfectly but today the left stick has been playing up…………

The D-gener-8 -

Is there a way to return the controller? Looks like you got a pretty bad clone :(.

koppie007 -

……… with stick drift then unresponsive, i haven’t opened it back up to check the numbers on the boards but I 100% now know I have a fake controller thanks to your guide. I will get another controller but this time from a proper shop like Asda, Sainsburys or Argos to make sure it’s genuine. Thank you for putting in the time and effort to show people how to tell if their controller is real or fake.

The D-gener-8 -

No problem! Happy that I'am able to help you to identify wether it's fake or not :D! It's better to buy it at a "well known store". It's more expensive most of the times, but it will be a genuine controller for sure.

koppie007 -

funny thing is all of the newer clones are more and more closer to the real ones

i have 1 ds4 clone that i bought because im a bit curious about how it feels and suprisingly almost similar with less sensitivity on the trigger but the analog are similar

my clone doesnt have a different screws length, use the same battery type like on the 2nd picture (but the pcb are different) and doesnt have the turquoise light when try to pairing but they have a different blink the real ones doesnt blink but its like breathing but really fast meanwhile the fake ones are blinking

so if someone read this be aware.. go to a store that you trust or with a honest employee/owner. the easiest methout to identify fakes are from the "sony" stickers on the back. if its blurry or looks a bit sketchy then its probably a fake
