Background and Identification
The Cadillac Eldorado is a luxury car produced and marketed by Cadillac, a division of General Motors Company (GM). The Cadillac Motor Car Divison is GM’s luxury car division. The Cadillac Eldorado was produced between 1952 and 2002 through twelve generations. The Eldorado was classified as a personal luxury car and was positioned at or near the top of the Cadillac line of automobiles.
The twelfth and final generation of the Cadillac Eldorado was introduced in 1992 as a two-door coupé. The 1992 Eldorado drew interior and exterior styling cues from the 1988 Cadillac Solitaire, a show car. The Eldorado also became longer, wider, and heavier and included a transverse front-engine, front-wheel-drive layout. The Eldorado was sold with either a 4.9-liter V8 engine or a 4.8-liter V8 engine.
The Cadillac Eldorado was sold under two trims, the ESC (Eldorado Sport Coupe) and the ETC (Eldorado Touring Coupe). The ESC model included a stand-up hood ornament, Cadillac crests on the rear roof pillar, and concealed exhausts. The Touring Coupe was more handling-oriented and included a grille-mounted Cadillac wreath and crest, “Touring Coupe” scripts on the doors, quad exhaust outlets, and integrated fog lamps.
Cadillac Eldorado automobiles typically include the Cadillac logo in the center of the car’s front grille. The Cadillac logo includes a wreath surrounding a shield-like emblem that includes black, gold, red, silver, and blue rectangular pieces. Eldorado cars include the name “Eldorado” in a cursive font, generally placed on the car’s rear.
