Background and Identification

The Amazon Echo Spot was released in September 2017 as a hemispherical device with the same functions as the Echo Show. The Echo Show can be used for playing media, making video calls with a 5-megapixel front camera, controlling your smart home, and getting answers from Amazon’s Alexa, a virtual assistant.

The Alexa App is compatible with Android, iOS, and Fire OS operating systems and is also accessible via users’ web browsers. The Echo Spot features a built-in speaker with a 3.5 mm stereo audio output for use with external speakers, though the audio cable is not included with a purchase of the Echo Spot.

The Echo Spot includes several accessibility features. On Echo devices with screens, users can enable Alexa captioning and closed captioning, magnify the screen, toggle color inversion, and choose between several color correction options. Users can also enable the VoiceView screen reader to use gestures to navigate the Spot’s screen and hear spoken feedback about the selected items.

The Echo Spot also includes a range of privacy features including wake word technology, streaming indicators, microphone/camera off button, a built-in camera shutter, and the ability to view and delete voice recordings.

The Echo Spot features a 2.5-inch circular display that resembles an alarm clock. The Spot was released in black and white body colors.
