Background and Identification
Aspirators and suction units are medical equipment used to remove fluids from a patient’s airways, preventing pulmonary aspiration. These devices can also be used to clear fluids from a patient’s operative area before surgery.
Most units are portable and mainly used in ambulances, operating rooms, and nursing homes. The components of a suction unit include a vacuum pump, vacuum regulator, gauge, and canister. Some units contain a bacterial filter.
