Background and Identification

The BCI 3040 is a pulse oximeter made by BCI International, Inc., a healthcare product company. Pulse oximeters are non-invasive devices used to monitor a patient’s oxygen saturation. The 3040 model also monitors the patient’s pulse rate. BCI advertises that this model can be used with all patients from neonates to adults. It is designed for use in emergency rooms, outpatient clinics, intensive care units, and during emergency transport.

The BCI 3040 pulse oximeter displays the saturated oxygen level, pulse rate, pulse strength, alarm and alert messages, and high and low alarm limits on an LED display. This model is designed to beep with each pulse beat and the pitch of the beep changes based on the saturated oxygen level. The user can set the pulse beep volume, high and low alarm limits, and alert and alarm tone volume.

The 3040 model is powered by either an AC line or an internal rechargeable battery. Users can connect the pulse oximeter to an external computer or printer, which can be used to keep a data log and print out pulse rate readings and saturated oxygen levels.

The BCI 3040 can be identified by the name “microSpan 3040” printed in red font on the right-hand side of the device’s front face. The manufacturer’s name, “BCI” is printed in bold white font in the upper right-hand corner of the 3040 model’s front face.
