Background and Identification

The GE Datex-Ohmeda Aisys Carestation is a scalable, integrated anesthesia machine that features advanced ventilation, respiratory monitoring, and a breathing system. The Aisys Carestation includes large-panel displays mounted on a movable arm, allowing the user to reposition the displays to keep vital signs and ventilation controls within view and reach.

An anesthesia machine is a medical device used to create and administer a gaseous mixture which, when inhaled by a patient, induces or maintains unconsciousness. An anesthesia machine works in tandem with a ventilator, breathing system, and patient monitor, although modern machines commonly incorporate all of these elements into a single freestanding device. While a device labeled as an anesthesia machine may include all of these different devices, the strictly-defined function of the anesthesia machine is to produce the gaseous mixture, which can be adjusted by the anesthesiologist to match the composition and flow rate best suited to the patient.

The GE Datex-Ohmeda Aisys Carestation features electronically-controlled and monitored ventilation, vaporization, and gas delivery. The machine’s software can be upgraded to enhance functionality, data management, and support. The Aisys model’s 7900 SmartVent technology is suitable for neonates, pediatric, cardiac compromised, and standard cases.

GE Datex-Ohmeda anesthesia monitors and machines can generally be identified by the GE emblem, which includes the letters “GE” in cursive font inside of a circle. They usually include the name Datex-Ohmeda in italicized font next to the GE logo.
