Background and Identification
The Dell 2005FPW is a 20-inch widescreen monitor. It was released in November 2004 and uses the same panel (the part of the screen that you see) as its competitor from earlier in the year, the Apple Cinema HD Display. AnandTech wrote an excellent comparison of these two monitors in 2005 which highlights the fact that, at the time, the Dell 2005FPW was one of the first commercially-available widescreen monitors. With its resolution of 1680x1050 pixels, the Dell 2005FPW ditched the previously common 4:3 aspect ratio for a wider 16:10 ratio.
The bottom edge of the monitor has four connectors for digital and analog video input: a DVI-D connector, a VGA input, an S-video connector, and a composite RCA jack. The 2005FPW also has a USB hub built-in with the input and two outputs on the bottom edge and another two USB output ports on the right edge. The six buttons for controlling the monitor reside at the bottom right side of the screen. According to Dell’s specifications, the 2005FPW draws 75 watts of power when it is being used.
You can identify this monitor by finding an informational sticker on the back and looking for a line with the words “Model No. 2005FPW.” If you’re looking online for this monitor, you might occasionally find it referred to as the “Dell UltraSharp 2005FPW.”
