Background and Identification
Dell Latitude is a series of business laptops primarily designed by Compal and Quanta. Dell launched the Latitude line in the early 1990’s with the XP series.
There are various sub-series within the Dell Latitude line. The Dell Latitude Rugged series includes laptops for use in the field. These are designed to handle extreme temperatures and drops and are built with more durability than the average laptop. The Dell Latitude 3000 is a budget friendly series, targeted towards students and home office use. The Dell Latitude 5000 series includes mainstream business laptops designed for management, and the Dell Latitude 7000 series comprises lightweight business ultrabooks. As of 2020, Dell Latitudes are still in production with the release of the Dell Latitude 9510 and Dell Latitude 9510 2-in-1. These laptops are part of Dell’s newest series, Latitude 9000, which is designed as a portable and lightweight laptop with a long battery life.
The Dell Latitude line is a competitor of Lenovo ThinkPad, HP EliteBook, and Acer Travelmate.
The components in Dell Latitude laptops are designed nearly identically from model to model so consumers can easily maintain their devices.
