Background and Identification
Endometrial ablation is a surgical procedure in which the endometrial lining of the uterus, is removed or destroyed by freezing, microwave, heated balloon, heated fluid or radiofrequency.
The procedure is done for women who have difficulty with excessive menstrual bleeding. It should not be done on patients who wish to have children as it can make pregnancy difficult, dangerous or impossible. Many patients will have a sterilization procedure at the same time as the ablation.
