Background and Identification

The GE Engstrom was first introduced in 2004 and is manufactured by Datex-Ohmeda. Since 2003, Datex-Ohmeda has been a part of GE Healthcare.

The GE Engstrom Carestation ventilator is used in NICUs, pediatric and adult ICUs to assist patients with respiratory issues. It is considered a complete care system, meaning that it can be used for patient monitoring, patient ventilation, and can be connected to a central monitoring system. The GE Engstrom Carestation is comprised of three main components: the display, ventilator unit, and an optional module bay. The GE Engstrom Carestation also takes advantage of the EView module which was developed by Eurotech. The EView module is capable of broad data capture which assists health care professionals in determining what happened to a patient moments before the ventilator alarm goes off.

The GE Enstrom Carestation has its display unit mounted on top its ventilator unit. There is a location on the right of the ventilator unit to install optional module bays. On the front of the ventilator units are the nebulizer connection, exhalation valve housing, expiratory inlet, expiratory flow sensor, gas exhaust port, leak test plug, exhalation valve housing latch, water trap, auxiliary pressure port, and the inspiratory outlet.

The GE Engstrom Carestation can also be identified by its serial number which is located at the back of the ventilator unit next to the fan filter. The serial number comes in two formats:

AAAX11111

The X represents an alpha character

indicating the year the product was

manufactured; J = 2004, K = 2005, etc.

I and O are not used.

AAAXX111111AA

The X X represents a number indicating

the year the product was manufactured;

04 = 2004, 05 = 2005, etc.
