Background and Identification

The Huawei Nova Android smartphone was released by Huawei in October 2016. It was released with the Huawei Nova Plus, which has slightly larger dimensions and a larger battery. Internationally, the Huawei Nova was available in gold, silver, and grey bodies. In China, the Nova was available in white, black, rose gold, and silver bodies. Both versions sport glass fronts and aluminum backs and frames.

The Nova and Nova Plus both feature slightly rounded and sand-blasted aluminum backs. The Nova has a 5.0-inch display while the Nova Plus has a 5.5-inch display. The Nova includes a 3,020 mAh non-removable battery, whereas the Nova Plus’s battery clocks in at 3,340 mAh. The Nova features a 12-megapixel main camera and an 8-megapixel front camera that support autofocus capabilities. The international Nova variant includes 32 GB of internal storage and 3 GB of RAM, while the versions available in China include 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of internal storage.

The Nova features a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner, accelerometer, gyro, proximity, and compass sensors. The Nova and Nova Plus are not splash-resistant. Both variants feature dual-SIM functionality, but only one SIM can be used if operated with an additional MicroSD card for expanded storage.

Reviews praised the Nova’s aluminum build and battery life but found that the cameras performed poorly in low-light conditions.
