Background and Identification
The JVC XL-333 is a compact disc player, released in May 1988. It was manufactured by Victor Company of Japan, Limited and can be identified by model number XL-V333BK. The Victor Company of Japan, Ltd. (usually called JVC or the Japan Victor Company) was a Japanese consumer and professional electronics corporation. JVC is best known for introducing Japan’s first televisions and for developing the VHS (Video Home System) video recorder. In 2008, JVC merged with Kenwood Corporation and formed JVCKenwood.
A CD player is an electronic device that plays the audio stored on compact discs (CDs). Compact discs are a digital optical disc data storage format. CDs were first introduced to the consumer market in 1982. 52nd Street by Billy Joel was the first CD title available in 1982, and by the end of the year, over 100 CD titles were available for purchase. CD players significantly expanded in 1983 when they were introduced to the U.S. market. In that year, over 30,000 CD players and 800,000 CDs were sold just in the U.S.
