Background and Identifications

Korg is a Japanese electronic musical instrument company that manufactures an array of products including audio processors, guitar pedals, recording equipment, and electronic tuners. The Electribe line, first introduced in 1999, is a brand of electronic musical instruments that includes analog modeling synthesizers and sampling drum machines. The Electribe devices can be called ‘grooveboxes’ because they allow the user to program drum patterns, synth, and basslines. Sweetwater states in this review that, “The Korg ESX-1 is a sweet groove-oriented hardware sampler for electronic musicians or DJs producing any genre of electronic music.”

The body of the Korg Electribe SX is a sturdy metal box with a back-lit LCD display. The E-SX includes a decent amount of memory, a ton of real-time controllers, and vacuum tubes. There is a ribbon controller and slider on the bottom left side of the machine. The Korg Electribe SX can produce 16 parts that can be used for patterns. The Korg Electribe SX Logo is on the top left of the device, right next to the visible vacuum tubes.
