Background and Identification
The LG V40 ThinQ Android smartphone was released in October 2018 by LG Electronics as part of the LG V series. The V40 was available in grey, red, black, and blue bodies.
The V40 was LG's first smartphone to feature five total cameras, three on the rear, and two on the front. The front includes a dual camera, which has two camera sensors that work in unison to produce an image. The rear camera sensors are a telephoto lens, a wide-angle lens, and a standard lens. The V40 includes a non-removable 3300 mAh battery. A non-removable battery is one whose adhesive is permanent, making repair and replacement difficult. The V30, the V40’s predecessor, includes the same size battery while the V50, the V40’s successor, includes a larger 4000 mAh battery. The V40 also features 18 Watt fast-charging capabilities and 10 Watt wireless charging. It also has Qnovo’s intelligent battery management software built in to extend the lifespan of the battery.
The V40 includes 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB of internal storage that is expandable up to 512 GB with microSDXC cards. It also features a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor, an accelerometer, gyro, proximity, compass, and barometer sensors. The phone has a scratch-resistant glass back and front and an aluminum frame. The V40 features dust-resistance and water-resistance in up to 1.5 meters of freshwater for up to 30 minutes. The V40 is also MIL-STD-810G compliant, meaning that it complies with standard military environmental worthiness and overall durability.
TechRadar’s review praised the various camera modes and design of the V40 but found that the telephoto lens sometimes causes zoomed-in photos to become blurry. TechRadar also said the phone required more battery power than is provided.
