Windows Phone is a family of operating systems for smartphones developed by Microsoft, an American technology company. Windows Phone was launched in October 2010, though work on the Windows Mobile project may have begun as early as 2004. The Windows Phone operating systems replaced Windows Mobile and Zune and was primarily aimed at the consumer market.
Motorola Mobiliity LLC (commonly known as Motorola) is an American consumer electronics and telecommunications company. Motorola is a subsidiary of Lenovo, a Chinese multinational technology company. Motorola mainly produces smartphones and other mobile devices using the Android operating system developed by Google. Motorola Mobility was established in January 2011 when the original Motorola company was split into two separate companies. Motorola Mobility assumed the company’s consumer-oriented product lines including its mobile phone business. Google purchased Motorola Mobility in May 2012; under Google, Motorola Mobility increased its focus on the smartphone market. Under the Google ATAP division, Motorola Mobility began development on a platform for modular smartphones with interchangeable components. In January 2014, Lenovo purchased Motorola Mobility from Google with the intent to use the company to expand into the United States smartphone market.
Throughout various ownerships, Motorola and Motorola Mobility have produced a range of phones. The Razr series was widely successful and became the bestselling clamshell phone in the world. Other Motorola phones include Droid models, the Moto X, and Moto G. Most Motorola phones include the Motorola logo, which includes an ‘M’ stylized to look like two mountains, in the center of the phone’s backing.
