Background and Identification

The Nellcor N-595 is a pulse oximeter made by Mallinckrodt’s Nellcor division. Pulse oximeters are non-invasive devices used to monitor a patient’s oxygen saturation. The Nellcor division focuses mainly on producing pulse oximeters and oxygen monitors.

The Nellcor N-595 model features the OxiMax monitoring platform, making it compatible with the full line of Nellcor OxiMax sensors. SatSeconds Alarm Management is used to manage nuisance alarms without compromising patient safety. This model is compatible with Nellcor’s Score Analysis Software, which allows it to be used for overnight oximetry studies. This device is suitable for use with adult, pediatric, and neonatal patients during no-motion and motion conditions. Users can set the monitor’s alarms for adults or neonates. The power-on settings can also be configured by the user.

The N-595 model features an LCD graphical screen that displays pulse rate trends and saturated oxygen levels. Oxygen saturation is displayed as a 48-hour trend, and pulse rate trends are recorded at four-second intervals. The screen can print graphical or tabular trends.

This pulse oximeter includes the name “NELLCOR” printed in capital letters in the upper left-hand corner of the device’s front face. The model name, “OxiMax N-595,” is printed in the upper right-hand corner of the monitor’s front face. Flip feet on the bottom of the device allows the user to adjust the monitor’s angle for tabletop viewing.
